Although they fought valiantly, Mizzou fell just short against the defending national champions, LSU, who secured a top score of 198.000. Mizzou, however, put on an impressive display, landing a score of 197.125.

High Attendance, High Scores

The event attracted a roaring crowd of 13,082 spectators, marking the eighth-highest attendance in LSU gymnastics history. The atmosphere was electric, and it became clear that both teams were energized by the support of their enthusiastic fans.

Mizzou’s Season Snapshot

Currently, Mizzou holds the ninth spot in national rankings, bringing a season record of 6-3 and 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to the mat. LSU, meanwhile, is not far behind, sitting at number three, with a record of 5-2 and 2-1 in SEC competition. This competitive edge made for a nail-biting meet that showcased the talents of both teams.

Outstanding Performances

Mizzou’s athletes turned in awe-inspiring performances, achieving six scores over 9.900. This allowed them to tally up their second consecutive score of at least 197.000 this season. Senior standout, Amari Celestine, dazzled the crowd with her skills on both bars and vault, earning a score of 9.900 and a personal-best all-around score of 39.475.

Graduate student Mara Titarsolej wasn’t far behind, achieving a score of 9.925 on bars—her third score of at least 9.900 within the last four meets, bringing her total to 32 overall. Sophomore Hannah Horton also shone brightly, scoring an impressive 9.925 on vault, marking her first event title in that category this year. Additionally, Jocelyn Moore added to the mix with a score of 9.900 on floor, reaching this benchmark for the 31st time during her career.

Battle on Balance Beam

Redshirt senior Helen Hu took home the title on balance beam once again, scoring a remarkable 9.975, maintaining her status as a top competitor with three consecutive beam titles. Mizzou’s score of 49.350 on uneven bars marked a season-best for the team, beating their previous high of 49.225. Titarsolej enhanced her scoring average to 9.880 on uneven bars, showcasing her consistent improvement.

Looking Ahead

Mizzou also had notable scores in other events, with a vault score of 49.175, exceeding the 49.000 mark for the third time this season. The team recorded a 49.325 on floor, hitting at least 49.300 for the third time, with Hu boasting three of the highest scores recorded by Mizzou gymnasts this season on the balance beam. Freshman Olivia Kelly shone on beam as well, scoring 9.875, which placed her ninth nationally at the time.

As Mizzou gears up for their next meet against the No. 32 Illinois Fighting Illini on February 9, 2025, fans can look forward to catching this exciting match streamed on Big 10 Network+. This upcoming competition will be the first of two matchups this season between Mizzou and Illinois, paving the way for further thrilling moments in the gymnastics arena.
