Bossier City’s Crime Statistics for 2023: A Detailed Overview
The Bossier City Police Department recently released its crime statistics for 2023, underlining several notable changes compared to its previous year’s data. The figures show significant escalations across multiple types of crime, such as armed robberies, rapes, homicides, and auto thefts. In contrast, aggregated assault, burglary, and thefts witnessed a decrease compared to the previous year data.
Significant Changes in Crime Trends
As detailed by city spokesperson, Louis Johnson, the city witnessed an increase in homicides by an additional count in 2023. This rise is directly linked to a tragic occurrence where an out-of-state fugitive committed a double homicide upon dropping off I-20 at Industrial Drive.
A surge of 13% was also noticed in auto thefts throughout the year, a trend that the city attributes to a security glitch prevalent in KIAs and Hyundais vehicles. It’s a trend that is not just confined to Bossier City but has been observed nationally as well.
The most significant escalation was seen in armed robberies, seeing a startling 35% increase, going from 20 cases in 2022 to 27 in 2023. However, the spokesperson Louis Johnson emphasized that among these robberies, 23 were committed against individuals, not businesses. Irrespective of the target, the police department has committed itself to reducing these incidences in the following year.
