SHREVEPORT, La. — In the latest string of distressing events at The Jolie Apartments complex, a man is fighting for his life following a grievous shooting incident over the weekend. This, as tenants reel from the announcement of compulsory relocation due to uninhabitable living conditions, leaves the community in turmoil.
Police Investigation Progressing at the Crime Scene
Early Saturday morning, Shreveport police responding to the incident found a man critically wounded by gunshot in the vicinity of The Jolie Apartments. “He’s still in critical condition; however, he is still alive at this time,” stated police Cpl. Chris Bordelon.
Trepidation among Residents
The unsettling news follows the recent announcement that The Jolie, along with Villa Norte and The Pines apartments, are doomed to lose water supplies by the end of the month. A Jolie resident admitted her apprehension, stating, “I was back and forward. And then when I did get settled, my house got flooded. I had to wait ‘til the rain, water, all the other stuff to clear, move my furniture in. When I did that, my house got broke into.” Nonetheless, when asked about the shooting, she accepted its inevitability, stating, “I have nothing to do with that, that’s everywhere. Hey, crime is crime; you can’t stop it.”
A Spike in Violent Crimes
In response to rising concerns, Shreveport Police Department divulged that there were 519 calls for service last year from The Jolie community. However, on the subject of possible squatters in the property, Bordelon clarified, “That is something we can’t really speak of because that requires the cooperation of the owner of the property. At this point in time, from our understanding, there has not been a whole lot.”
