Severe Storms Expected From Hurricane Beryl

SHREVEPORT, La. – A First Alert Weather Day Declared

Residents of ArkLaTex are bracing for the arrival of Hurricane Beryl that is anticipated to deliver scattered and severe storms across the region for most of Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory and a flood watch in response to the storm’s imminent arrival. Meteorologists have warned of tornadoes and flash flooding as the two major threats during the afternoon hours with eastern Texas and southwest Arkansas particularly susceptible to flash flooding.

Beryl’s Impact

Hurricane Beryl is expected to deliver a downpour to the region, with areas potentially witnessing precipitation of between 5 to 8 inches within a single day. High temperatures are predicted to hover around the low 80’s. In the wake of Beryl, some stray showers may persist into early Tuesday morning, particularly in the northern counties of Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Despite the disruptive weather, Tuesday is expected to usher in a turn for the better with partly cloudy skies and dry conditions across the region. Temperature highs are set to gradually increase into the upper 80’s.

Brief Respite Before Next Weather Wave

After an active Monday, quiet weather conditions and sunshine are expected to take over for the rest of the week. However, rainfall is expected to return, albeit mildly, in the form of a few isolated showers over the weekend. High temperatures are projected to rise accordingly into the low 90’s for Wednesday before reaching the mid to upper 90’s for the latter part of the week.

Advisories Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory effective from 7 AM Monday morning to 1 AM Tuesday, encompassing south central and southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and east and northeast Texas. Additionally, a flood watch has been implemented from 7 AM Monday through Tuesday afternoon for east Texas, southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Arkansas counties, along with Bossier and Caddo parishes.

Residents are urged to stay weather aware throughout Monday and to heed the advice and recommendations of local officials and weather experts during this time.

Florida Authorities Issue Disaster Declaration

As the storm system travels through the ArkLaTex region, East Texas counties have been added to the Hurricane Beryl Disaster Declaration. This comes in light of the damage that this hurricane has left in its wake in other areas. The declaration prompts federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding.

Local residents are urged to remain vigilant for updates from local authorities and news outlets concerning the storm’s progression and expected impact. The safety and wellbeing of all residents are of utmost importance during this severe weather event.

Preparation and Response

Emergency services, including the American Red Cross, are taking appropriate action in response to Hurricane Beryl. They advise residents to prepare for the storm by filling up their gas tanks, gathering emergency supplies, and creating a family disaster plan. It is crucial for everyone to stay informed about changing weather conditions and follow instructions and advice given by local emergency officials.

Hurricane Beryl serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing vigilance during hurricane season. As weather systems develop and cause disruptions, it is essential that individuals and communities stay informed, prepared, and proactive in coping with these events.
