Constitution Day Celebration

Shreveport Celebrates Constitution Day with Fun and Learning!

This September 17th, the vibrant community of Shreveport will come together to celebrate Constitution Day. The events will unfold all day at Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS), culminating in a film screening at The Robinson Film Center. This special day is aimed at enhancing understanding of the U.S. Constitution and its relevance in today’s world.

A Day Full of Exciting Activities

From morning until evening, attendees can immerse themselves in various educational activities designed to pique interest and provoke thought. One of the highlights will be access to exhibits showcasing the U.S. Constitution, set up on the first and third floors of the Noel Memorial Library on the LSUS campus. These exhibits promise to offer insights into the historical significance and ongoing importance of this foundational document.

Get Involved with Voter Registration

Making your voice heard is crucial in a democracy, and that’s why a voter registration drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center Lobby, right next to The Port Grille. This is a wonderful opportunity for citizens to get registered and take an active role in shaping their community.

Singing Along with Hamilton Karaoke

If you’re looking for a fun way to express yourself, don’t miss the Hamilton Karaoke session at 11 a.m. in The Port Grille. Based on the wildly popular musical about one of America’s Founding Fathers, this activity invites you to belt out your favorite tunes while embracing your inner artist!

Enjoy Delicious Food at the Founders Day Feast

After all that singing, you might work up an appetite! Fortunately, The Port Grille has you covered with their Founders Day Feast for just $9.95 per person. Not only will you satisfy your hunger, but you’ll also be sharing the company of friends and fellow attendees.

Learn About Student Government Rights

For students looking to delve deeper into campus life, a student town hall session titled Know Your Student Government Rights will be held at 2 p.m. in the Student Organization Lounge. This is a chance for students to engage with their government and understand the rights available to them on campus.

Capping the Day with Citizen Kane

The day will culminate with a showing of the classic film Citizen Kane at 6 p.m. at The Robinson Film Center. This film, often hailed as one of the greatest in American cinema, will be accompanied by a panel discussion that dives into themes surrounding the freedom of the press. Interested viewers must register for a seat in the 45-person theater, making this an exclusive opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue.

Win Prizes and Participate from Anywhere!

For those attending three Constitution Day events and completing bingo cards available in the University Center lobby, exciting prizes await! And don’t worry if you can’t make it to campus; LSUS is also hosting interactive online trivia that remote participants can enjoy.

Support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities

This enriching celebration of the U.S. Constitution is made possible thanks to a grant from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. The funding supports various aspects of the event, including venue rentals, speaker honoraria, and program publicity, ensuring a quality experience for all attendees.

As Ashley Dean, assistant director of the strategy alternatives consortium at LSUS, remarked, “We are deeply grateful to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for their generous support.” The celebration is set to be a dynamic and engaging experience highlighting the crucial role of the press in any democratic society.
