Term Limits Take Center Stage
The ongoing debate surrounding term limits made its way to court this past week. After both sides laid out their arguments, Judge Parks ruled that the issue should be put to a vote among the citizens. This means the resolution needs to get the green light from the City Council to move forward. However, excitement was short-lived as the council voted against sending this important matter to the voters, resulting in a 3-3 tie.
This deadlock leaves residents wondering what’s next for the resolution. It appears that the matter may be stalled for now or perhaps pushed into the next level—an appeal. This certainly is something to keep an eye on in the weeks to come!
9/11 Memorial Ceremony
On a more emotional note, Wednesday saw Bossier City team up with Keep Bossier Beautiful for their annual 9/11 Memorial at the Central Fire Station. Due to some unforeseen weather challenges, the ceremony was moved indoors, but that didn’t stop the locals from coming out to honor those lost in the tragic events.
The event was filled with patriotism and community spirit. Mayor Chandler, addressing the crowd, reminded everyone of the strength and unity this tragedy inspired in the nation saying, “These attacks were intended to divide us and cause fear… but instead, they caused our nation to show our courage and become even more unified.”
First responders, along with local and state officials, were acknowledged for their bravery and dedication during this poignant ceremony.
Tax Confusion Clarified
This week wasn’t without its fair share of confusion, particularly regarding taxes in Bossier City. A small increase in the parish’s millage caused some citizens to mistakenly believe it was the city implementing the changes. This goes to show how important clear communication between the government and the public is.
Mayor’s Prayer Lunch Approaching
Looking ahead, Mayor Tommy Chandler is hosting a Mayor’s Prayer Lunch on Tuesday, September 17th at the Fire and Police Training Academy located at 5150 Shed Rd.. This gathering aims to unite community leaders and offer prayers of thanksgiving while seeking divine guidance. Mayor Chandler has emphasized the importance of prayer in fostering a successful city, stating, “We cannot hope to have a successful city unless we are a people that prays and honors God.”
The lunch kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and everyone is welcome to join in this meaningful event, with Bossier Parish Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Jason Rowland, as the featured speaker.

This past Wednesday, the South Bossier Lunch was a noteworthy occasion too! Community members heard from Capt. Johnson of the Bossier Sheriff’s Department, who shared insights on school safety—a topic that has been increasingly important for parents in today’s world.
Fun at Louisiana Downs
Meanwhile, excitement was in the air at Louisiana Downs over the weekend as the Super Derby took place, bringing out the crowds. Mayor Chandler, along with Louisiana Downs owner Kevin Preston and the owners of Lucky Palace, celebrated the official opening of Lucky Palace with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Known for its remarkable dining, the new location is already seen as a fantastic destination for locals and visitors alike.
Sports, Fitness, and Shopping Events
Sports enthusiasts are looking forward to the upcoming LSU football game against South Carolina, which promises to be a good indicator of what to expect from the Tigers this season.
