Bossier City Fundraiser Unites Community to Support Officer’s Son Battling Cancer

Community Fundraiser Gathering

Bossier City Comes Together for a Special Family in Need

In the heart of Bossier City, something truly heartwarming is happening. The community is rallying together to support one of its own—an officer’s family that is facing tough times due to a recent cancer diagnosis. On October 4th, starting at 11 a.m., the Bossier Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) #39 will hold a cookout fundraiser aimed at raising money for Gunner, the 12-year-old son of Officer Chris Porter.

Meet Gunner: A Bright Young Star

Gunner is a lively young boy who loves all things active! Whether it’s basketball, fishing, or enjoying the thrill of riding 4-wheelers and tractors, Gunner has a passion for adventure. He also enjoys playing video games and cherishes the time he spends with his cousins and friends. Unfortunately, his life has been rocked by a recent cancer diagnosis; a memory that no child or family should have to endure. The cancer initially manifested as a tumor on Gunner’s spine, and although doctors successfully removed approximately 85% of the tumor, the road to recovery is still long.

Fundraiser Details: Come Hungry, Leave Inspired

On the day of the fundraiser, attendees can indulge in delicious BBQ pulled pork sandwich plates, which will be served until they run out. This event is hosted at the Bossier Fraternal Order of Police #39 located at 620 Benton Road. What’s even more inspiring is that officers have taken vacation days just to support Gunner and his family during this challenging time. Community members and friends alike are encouraged to come out, fill their bellies, and show their support.

A Community United

It’s clear that the spirit of community lives strong in Bossier City. The Bossier FOP has always been known for stepping up during tough times, both for its members and their families. In a heartfelt statement, they said, “Our community has always stepped up when we needed help with previous fundraisers. We are asking for your help. Let’s get together for Gunner’s fight.”

Officers, friends, and local residents alike are coming together in this spirit of solidarity. Bossier FOP’s Executive Board President, along with the Vice President, State Trustee, Secretary, and Treasurer all echoed a beautiful sentiment: “A family born, not from a bloodline, but bonded in life by a blue one.” This shows just how deep the bonds are among these officers who consider each other family, ready to arise to the occasion for one of their own.

Life Balancing Act: Officer Porter’s Journey

While going through this emotional upheaval, Officer Chris Porter is showing immense strength. He continues to work and even undertakes extra jobs to support his family, juggling the responsibilities of work and caring for his three children. It’s truly commendable how he navigates this challenging chapter, and it’s heartening to see the community step forward to lighten his burden.

A Call to Action

As the date approaches, it’s a perfect time for local residents to mark their calendars and plan to attend. Every plate purchased and every dollar raised will go a long way in supporting Gunner’s fight against cancer. Let’s all come together, show our love and support for Gunner and his family, and make this fundraiser a huge success. After all, in times like these, every bit counts!
