Celebrate Culinary Excellence: Shreveport-Bossier Black Restaurant Week Kicks Off Soon!

Hello food lovers! Get ready for an exciting week as Shreveport and Bossier prepare to come together for the much-anticipated Black Restaurant Week. This delightful celebration of Black culinary talent will take place from October 20 to 26, 2024, showcasing the flavors and creativity of over 17 participating restaurants and bars throughout the region.

A Taste of Community

Why is this event so important, you might ask? Well, it’s not just about indulging your taste buds—it’s about making a real impact! The Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce has organized this week-long festivity to promote economic growth within the local restaurant industry, especially for Black-owned businesses.

Supporting Black-owned restaurants is more than enjoying a delicious meal; it’s about empowering our community, celebrating rich cultural heritage, and ensuring that future generations have a thriving environment to explore culinary artistry. It’s a time to acknowledge the contributions these establishments make to our economy and embrace the flavors that reflect our identity.

Kicking Off the Festivities

The festivities will kick off with an exhilarating King vs. King Cook Off Fundraiser at Orlandeaux Cafe on October 20, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Join us as Krewe of Harambee King XXV, Damien Chapman, and Krewe of Sobek King Chris Hayes XXII battle it out to see who can whip up the best dish! It’s going to be a fun, culinary showdown you won’t want to miss.

But that’s just the start! The official Black Restaurant Week Kick Off Party will take place on the same day at G-Spot Daq2Go from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Expect a fantastic evening filled with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and live entertainment, all in celebration of this annual tradition.

What’s on the Menu?

Many participating restaurants will present special menu items and curated experiences all week long. From mouthwatering Creole cuisine to flavor-packed dishes that reflect a diverse array of cultural influences—the choices are endless! You can indulge your cravings while supporting local businesses.

Mark your calendars for some highlighted events during the week, such as the MS Kick Foodie Fest happening on October 25 at MS Kick, and the lively Rotel Fest set to take place on October 26 at Louisiana Daiquiri Cafe. Both festivity-filled gatherings will be an excellent opportunity to dive deeper into the culinary offerings of our local restaurants.

Why It Matters

As Meagan Davis, Chairwoman of the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce, beautifully puts it, “The impact of supporting Black-owned restaurants and chefs during Black Restaurant Week goes beyond just enjoying a meal. It’s about empowering our community, celebrating our culture, and contributing to the growth of businesses that are the backbone of our economy.”

And let’s not forget the heartfelt words from Damien Chapman, owner of Orlandeaux’s, who emphasizes that this event shines a light on the wonderful Black-owned establishments in our area, ensuring that the rich culinary offerings continue to be a treasured part of our community. “Through the last century, our family has filled the bellies of the people in this city, so it’s our duty to continue to serve our Creole Cuisine to our community for another 100 years!”
