Shreveport Police Department Moves to New Headquarters
The city of Shreveport is buzzing with excitement as the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) settles into their brand-new digs! After months of planning and preparation, officers have begun the process of relocating from their former headquarters at 1234 Texas Avenue to a vibrant new substation in downtown Shreveport.
A New Chapter for Community Policing
This week marked the beginning of a significant shift for SPD, particularly for their community-oriented policing bureau. As explained by the public information officer, Chris Bordelon, officers have started to move into the downtown location. “Our community-oriented policing bureau has begun moving from the 1234 Texas location to our downtown substation,” he stated. This transition is not merely a change of address; it’s part of a broader plan to enhance community engagement and police presence in the heart of Shreveport.
Unpacking and Settling In
On Thursday, November 7, the atmosphere was lively as officers unpacked boxes and set up their new workspace. “Community liaison officers are responsible for many things in the community,” Bordelon detailed. “They host summer camps, enforce laws, and much more.” The equipment they brought along—including bikes and computers—will play a huge role in their continued community outreach efforts.
With the new headquarters situated downtown, the SPD aims to create a stronger connection with residents. The plan is to have officers actively accessible in the community as they work diligently to foster relationships and ensure safety.
Growing Their Footprint in Downtown
Bordelon emphasized the significance of this relocation for the department, stating, “It’s going to give us a larger blueprint in downtown Shreveport as well as making those community liaison officers very accessible to the public.” This increased visibility is set to enhance community confidence in the police force, ensuring that help is always just around the corner.
Looking Ahead
But that’s not all! As Shreveport Police gear up for this exciting move, they are also looking ahead to further developments. The groundbreaking for a new substation on Monkhouse Drive has already begun. “[We’re] hoping within the next year to actually have our west substation up and running,” Bordelon shared.
The west substation will house the traffic bureau, which is essential to managing the flow of vehicles in the area. According to reports, this building is nearing completion, and officers are expected to start moving in very soon. In fact, it could happen as soon as this month!
Community Impact
As the officer transition continues, Shreveport residents can anticipate a stronger police presence and enhanced community services. This move reflects SPD’s commitment to fostering a safer, more connected community. Whether it’s through hosting educational camps during the summer, engaging with citizens at community events, or simply being a friendly face on the streets, the department is excited about the opportunities this new location will provide.
So, Shreveport, as our police department prepares to make the most of their new home, it’s a great time to get involved and support the officers in their ongoing mission to serve and protect the community. Your Shreveport Police Department is not just moving; they’re moving forward!
