Home for the Howl-idays: A Pawsitively Wonderful Opportunity in Bossier City!
Hey there, furry friends and animal lovers of Bossier City! The season of giving is upon us, and what better way to spread some holiday cheer than to help our local pups find a cozy spot for Thanksgiving? That’s right, the Bossier City Animal Shelter is rolling out an incredible initiative called Home for the Howl-idays, and you can get involved! Starting tomorrow at noon, you can foster one of their lovable dogs for a few days, and trust me, it’s going to be a heartwarming experience.
Why Foster?
So, why should you consider opening your home to a dog in need? Well, there are plenty of reasons! According to Susan Stanford, the Animal Control Superintendent, fostering helps these pups become more adoptable. When they step outside the shelter’s walls, they can relax and de-stress. “They decompress; their stress level becomes less,” Stanford explains. Not only do you get to enjoy their company, but you’re also making a positive impact on their lives.
And who knows? You might just fall in love with your temporary furry roommate and end up adopting them! That’s the hopeful scenario of what’s often termed a “foster failure.” “We hope that families will connect with a dog they might not have considered before,” Stanford shared with a smile. “Turning fosters into adoptions creates a win-win situation.”
A Helping Paw
The Bossier City Animal Shelter is currently operating at full capacity—100% of the time! This initiative is crucial not only to free up space for new animals but also to continue their journey as a no-kill shelter. “We’ve been a no-kill shelter for three months now and are aiming for a fourth! We need fosters from Bossier and surrounding areas to help us make this happen,” Stanford emphasized.
What You Need to Know
If the idea of fostering sounds like fun, you’ll be thrilled to learn that it comes at no cost to you. The shelter provides all necessary supplies! Stanford reassures, “We will provide the food, crates, beds, leashes, toys—everything you need to make this a wonderful vacation time for your new friend.” So, you won’t have to worry about breaking the bank while making a little pup’s day!
You can choose from a fantastic selection of about 70 dogs. Can you imagine all those tails wagging at once? Whether you’re a long-time dog owner, someone who’s considering adopting, or simply an animal enthusiast, there’s a perfect furry companion waiting for you to share the holiday spirit.
How to Participate
Fostering kicks off tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. at the Bossier City Animal Shelter. Just head down there, meet some wagging tails, and find a dog who captures your heart. Once the holiday fun is over, you’ll return your new friend on December 2 after 10 a.m. It’s that simple!
