In a significant development, the city of Shreveport, Louisiana, is witnessing the installation of an Amazon fulfillment center, getting itself closer to becoming a vital hub to the retail giant’s supply chain. The leadership team for this sprawling utility was disclosed on Friday.
The general manager of the new and technologically advanced robotics fulfillment center, Abhishek Gowrishankar, expressed utmost excitement about joining the Shreveport community. He said, “It’s such an awesome privilege and humbling feeling to be coming into this community. The partnership, the excitement, the vibes have been incredible.“
Backed by an estimated workforce of 1,000 employees, the center is geared to process hundreds of thousands of customers’ orders each day, summing up to nearly 3 million orders a week. Along with providing job opportunities, Amazon also plans to facilitate furthering education for its employees. Gowrishankar further added that, “Any full-time hourly associate after spending 90 days with Amazon gets the support from Amazon for their full tuition.” Amazon has already instigated partnerships with two community schools and shows eagerness to consolidate more such partnerships.
Local authorities are jubilant about Amazon’s pick of Shreveport for establishing this facility. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux voiced his positive sentiment saying, “I think what it’ll do is it’ll show other businesses that we have the workforce to handle their needs and that our doors are open, that we are willing to work with them and move things along very quickly.“
The fulfillment center is anticipated to open in August, marking a significant milestone in Shreveport’s industrial growth.
