Severe storms accompanied by damaging winds and tornadoes swept through the region, leaving a path of destruction that has many feeling shaken. Stormy Skies and Tornadoes Confirmed

The day started with an ominous weather alert from the National Weather Service, warning of a tornado-capable storm near Blanchard. Just as predicted, the dark clouds unleashed their fury, resulting in at least two EF-1 tornadoes in Northern Caddo Parish alone. One tornado made landfall about eight miles west of Blanchard, boasting estimated winds of 93 MPH! The second tornado put down roots near the North Highlands neighborhood, wreaking havoc on homes and landscapes. The state of Texas wasn’t spared, either, as two additional EF-1 tornadoes were confirmed—one in Harrison County near Scottsville and another in Sabine County close to the Six Mile community. The cherry on top was a third EF-1 tornado in southwestern Claiborne Parish, which had winds reaching a staggering 110 MPH and a damage width spanning 300 yards!

Power Outages and Damage Reports

When the storm was at its peak, around 29,000 customers found themselves without power—most of them in Texas—especially in the Marshall and Longview areas. Luckily, SWEPCO has been on the scene, diligently working to restore service, with plans to have power back on for 95% of customers by 10 p.m. on March 5. They are also joined by crews from the Public Service Company of Oklahoma, who are pitching in to help in the east Texas region, while Fayetteville crews are lending a hand in Natchitoches, Many, and Hornbeck. The more, the merrier in times like these!

Stories of Survival

While many homes have sustained significant damages—from roofs being blown off in Minden, LA, to structural impairment in New Boston, Texas—residents are counting their blessings. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported despite the widespread chaos. In one gripping tale, a tree fell on a woman’s house in Caddo Parish. Luckily, she emerged unscathed but described hearing a loud boom when the tree struck her home. Talk about a hair-raising experience! Her husband’s car wasn’t so fortunate, as it was parked outside and took quite a hit from another fallen tree.

Community Resilience

As recovery efforts continue, the pain of the storm is palpable in communities across the region. Damage assessments are still ongoing in areas like Cloutierville and Natchitoches Parish, with numerous reports of downed utility lines and trees. Overturned trailers have been reported at an RV park in Camp County, leaving the occupants shaken. In Woodland Harbor, multiple trees have fallen, damaging homes and blocking roads, while traffic accidents have also crept up due to the hazardous conditions. Safety remains the top priority as cleanup crews work to restore normalcy.

Despite the storm’s aftermath, there’s a sense of community as folks band together to help one another recover.
