Shreveport Shines as Army Takes Down Louisiana Tech in Independence Bowl

This past weekend in Shreveport, Louisiana, the atmosphere was electric as fans filled the stands at Independence Stadium for the 48th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. The game featured Army squaring off against Louisiana Tech, and wow, did it deliver! Army powered through the game, showcasing their strength and determination with a convincing score of 27-6.

Army’s Ground Game Dominates

One of the standout features of the game was Army’s impressive rushing attack. They zipped through the field, notching up a jaw-dropping 321 rushing yards during the match. That’s an impressive feat by any standard! Army truly controlled the game clock with a whopping 40:08 of possession time. It’s no surprise that they came out on top given such solid performance on the ground.

The first quarter highlighted Army’s aggressive strategy with two quick touchdowns. Bryson Daily kicked things off with a 15-yard touchdown run, marking his NCAA-leading 30th touchdown of the season. He then added to his tally with an 8-yard touchdown run after a record-setting 21-play, 75-yard drive that consumed an incredible 12:21 off the clock. This stunning drive set a new record for the number of plays in Independence Bowl history.

Hayden Reed also contributed significantly, finishing the game with 114 yards on 20 carries and netting a touchdown of his own. By the end of the first quarter, Army had established a solid 14-0 lead.

Louisiana Tech Struggles to Keep Up

On the other side, Louisiana Tech found themselves struggling to establish a rhythm. Despite their challenges, they managed to score a field goal by Drew Henderson from 27 yards, bringing the score to 14-3 early in the second quarter. Unfortunately for Louisiana Tech, that would be one of the few highlights of the night.

As the game rolled into the third quarter, Louisiana Tech attempted a 44-yard field goal, which was successful, putting the score at 21-6. However, Army quickly regained control and put the game away with more dazzling plays, including a fantastic 52-yard pass from Daily to David Crossan, leading to Daily’s third touchdown run of the night. He ended up with a stellar 127 rushing yards on 27 carries and a total of 3 rushing touchdowns, solidifying his status as one of the top quarterbacks in college football history.

Outstanding Defense and Season Recap

Army’s defense was equally impressive, as they held Louisiana Tech to just 218 total yards of offense. Kalib Fortner shined on that side of the ball, earning MVP honors with 7 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 tackle for loss. Louisiana Tech’s defense was compromised due to the transfer portal, missing three starters from their defensive line, which certainly played a role in the game’s outcome.

The announced crowd for the action-packed evening stood at 34,283, making for a fantastic atmosphere, even as Louisiana Tech wrapped up their season with a record of 5-8 and their sixth appearance in the Independence Bowl. Meanwhile, Army celebrated a phenomenal season, finishing strong at 12-2 and recovering impressively from their earlier loss to archrival Navy.

In summary, Army’s exceptional rushing game, combined with a stout defense, proved to be the winning formula at this year’s Independence Bowl. As the players and fans left Independence Stadium, they did so with full hearts and the thrill of victory. Here’s to next season, where the excitement is sure to continue!
