Sponsor Our ArticlesIn the heart of Shreveport, something vibrant and meaningful has just popped up at the Shreve Memorial Library! A beautiful new mural, created as part of the Put a Poem On It project, has recently been unveiled to promote Autism awareness and support. This stunning piece of art is not just visually striking; it carries a deep message intended to uplift the community while celebrating the uniqueness of individuals living with Autism.
On September 12, at 1 p.m., the excitement built as Poetic X announced this inspiring collaboration with talented local artist Whitney Tates. Whitney is known for her breathtaking works that often convey powerful messages, and this mural, titled Gold Rush, is no exception. With its captivating design, featuring a striking blue brain outlined in shimmering gold, the mural instantly draws the eye. It also incorporates a thoughtful puzzle piece pattern that symbolizes the complexities and beauty of Autism.
Poetic X shared a touching statement about the mural: “The Poem & Artwork is dedicated to all who are on the frontier for Autism. To all battling Autism, ‘I see you as 24 Karat Gold Bars with Spectacular traits.’” This poignant message resonates deeply, bringing attention to the strength and courage of those navigating the challenges of Autism. It’s a reminder that every individual is valuable and worthy of recognition for their unique qualities.
For those looking to experience this remarkable artwork in person, the mural is displayed at the Hamilton South Caddo Branch of the Shreve Memorial Library, located at 2111 Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. With plans to keep the mural up until December 31st, there is plenty of time for community members to stop by and take in the beauty and meaning behind this unique piece.
This mural is more than just a visual treat; it’s part of a larger initiative. The Put A Poem On It project, sponsored by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council, aims to blend poetry and art, encouraging community connection through creative expression. It’s a wonderful way to bring people together and to foster understanding and acceptance of Autism within the community.
