PENN Entertainment Implements Mobile Robots to Augment its Security Forces

The Robots, Operating Round-the-Clock, Recharge Themselves and Utilize 360-Degree, Eye-Level Video Recording and Streaming.

In Bossier City, Louisiana, an unexpected sight is transforming the security landscape at the Boomtown Casino & Hotel and Margaritaville Casino & Resort. The K5, Knightscope autonomous security robots (ASRs) are making their presence felt at these popular entertainment spots, running 24/7, recharging themselves, and using 360-degree, eye-level video recording and streaming to secure the premises.

The imposing figures, standing nearly 5-foot tall and weighing approximately 400 pounds, can not only monitor security but also greet guests, offering a unique blend of interactive security and hospitality.

Part of a Larger Rollout

The deployment of these ASRs at Boomtown and Margaritaville forms part of a larger security initiative. PENN Entertainment is introducing these mobile robots at all its 43 U.S. gaming and racing facilities. This move aims to complement the diligent work of the existing security personnel, allowing them to perform their duties more extensively and efficiently.

Knightscope, the pioneer behind these state-of-the-art security robots, specializes in enhancing security operations in the United States. The firm has recently turned its focus onto the casino market, seeking to bolster safety measures while ensuring an exciting guest experience. These robots offer custom audio broadcast messaging with a client-chosen voice, invite visitors to take robot selfies, and provide easy access to emergency services.

Contributing to Overall Safety

The commanding size of these robots, along with their conspicuous lighting and patrol sounds, posses a deterrent effect against illicit activities. Moreover, they capture evidentiary-quality video footage and gather publicly available data to support investigations. Knightscope asserts their ASRs will not only bolster security measures at Boomtown and Margaritaville but will also elevate the overall guest experience.

Successful Track Record

These security robots made their debut at PENN Entertainment’s M Resort Spa Casino in Las Vegas. Following a successful run, the ASRs were soon deployed at the Ameristar Casino Hotel Council Bluffs in Iowa and the Hollywood Casino Aurora in Illinois. Last fall saw their deployment in Colorado at the Ameristar Black Hawk Casino Hotel. And now, they have found their new home in Louisiana.

Robots Guarding Art in Portland

In other news from the field of robotics, Portland will introduce “Rob,” its first autonomous security robot to guard a new local mural. Rob, reminiscent of the popular R2D2 from “Star Wars,” stands as a symbol of the ways in which AI and robotics are transforming traditional security systems.
