Get ready to treat your taste buds, Shreveport! From October 20 to 26, the city will come alive with the delicious energy of the Shreveport-Bossier Black Restaurant Week. This exciting event, organized by the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce (SBAACC), promises to highlight the culinary brilliance of Black-owned eateries in our community.
During this fantastic week, food lovers can explore over 17 participating restaurants and bars while enjoying special deals. You can indulge in $10 lunch specials and $20 dinner options! That’s right, you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy a wonderful meal at these unique spots!
This event isn’t just about good food; it’s also about building our community. The challenge of economic inequality affects many local businesses, and Black Restaurant Week aims to address this. By pushing for economic impact in the local restaurant industry, we not only support Black-owned businesses but also help raise awareness about the essential role they play in Shreveport-Bossier. According to a statement from the SBAACC, “Supporting Black-owned restaurants plays a crucial role in achieving socio-economic upliftment, and the sustainable implementation of these benefits will strengthen the entire community and open opportunities for future generations.”
One of the standout participants of this year’s celebration is the iconic Orlandeaux’s. Known as one of the oldest-running Black restaurants in America, it began its journey as Freeman & Harris Cafe around 1921. Damien Chapman, the owner, expressed his pride in participating, stating, “Black Restaurant Week is so very important to me because it gives us a time to celebrate, support and shine a light on, not just Orlandeaux’s, but all of the wonderful black-owned restaurants in our area. Through the last century, our family has filled the bellies of the people of this city, so it’s our duty to continue to serve our Creole Cuisine to our community for another 100 years!”
Throughout the week, visitors can expect a variety of special menu items and curated dining experiences that highlight the rich flavors, history, and culture of Black culinary traditions. Whether you’re craving soul food, Southern comfort classics, or innovative takes on beloved dishes, there’s something for everyone. This is a golden opportunity to explore new flavors and support local favorites!
So, how do you dive into this flavorful festivities? It’s easy! Just grab your family and friends, plan your dining schedule, and head out to sample the best meals our city has to offer. Make sure to check out the full list of participating restaurants and their enticing specials, which can be easily found online. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of something so meaningful.
