BOSSIER CITY, LA – An unexpected upheaval took place during Tuesday’s meeting of the Bossier City Charter Commission, leading to an urgent need for rescheduling the session to Thursday. The abrupt cancellation came about due to insufficient attendance by the key members, leaving the forum without the necessary quorum.

Commission Members’ Absence Cause Upheaval

With only three out of the nine senior members of the commission present at the meeting, commission Chairman, Preston Friedley expressed his puzzlement regarding the unfortified absence, hinting at possible unanimous emergencies or health issues.

“It’s intriguing that they all might have had simultaneous family emergencies or health concerns. I suppose it could be just a sheer coincidence. After all, things like that do happen,” Friedley said, apparently in a tone of disbelief.

Potential Revote on Term Limits Expected

Insiders believe the commission’s stance on suggested term limits was likely to be reconsidered at the meeting. During its last session, the panel broke a 4-3 vote in favor of implementing term limits for the Mayor and City Council members. The controversial matter, therefore, was considered to be settled. However, a preceding agenda, which Friedley claims he did not authorize, included a possible revote, sparking confusion and tumult amongst the members.

City Council Expresses Disappointment Over Mismanagement

City councilman Brian Hammons expressed profound disappointment regarding the ensuing mismanagement. “To say that I’m extremely embarrassed right now is an understatement. This is not what the City Council envisaged for the charter commission,” said Hammons.

He also emphasized that the temporal threshold is closing in for the July deadline to have the term limit recommendation ratified by the City Council.

“I would hope that the members who are absent tonight will not find it inconvenient to attend on Thursday so we can have a quorum. If we do not, I will tell you that at that point, the charter commission will have to acknowledge that we have done all we can do and we’ll probably have to transfer what we’ve achieved so far back on to the Mayor and the City Council,” Friedley added.

The rescheduled meeting will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center.
