Bossier City Council Proposes Salary Increases for City Employees, Recognizing Dedicated Service

Hello Bossier City Residents!

It seems that exciting changes are blowing through the beautiful streets of Bossier City! The City Council has recently proposed some significant pay raises for all city employees, and this round of applause includes our dedicated City Clerk, Phyllis McGraw, who has been tirelessly serving our community for over 20 years!

What’s the Buzz About?

In a regular session held just this week, the council was buzzing with activity as they introduced an ordinance to amend the 2025 General Fund City Council Operating Budget. This proposed move aims to adjust the salary of our beloved City Clerk to meet the regional standards for similar positions across the state. And let’s just say, everyone in the room is on board!

Why All the Attention on the City Clerk’s Salary?

Phyllis McGraw isn’t just any city employee; she’s got a whopping 28 years of municipal experience under her belt! It’s no secret that her hard work deserves a salary that reflects her dedication and expertise. The council’s initial proposal meant a salary increase for Phyllis, aligning her with other council clerks throughout the great state of Louisiana. However, here comes the twist! Due to a motion to amend the proposed budget, that initial salary increase was unfortunately cut. But wait, there’s more!

This Council Wants Fairness!

After discussions and a strong push from the council, they swiftly approved an additional $12,000 salary increase specifically for the city clerk. This adjustment not only brings Phyllis’ salary back on par with her peers but also addresses the prior amendment’s effects on her pay. Hooray for fair treatment and recognition of hard work!

What Does This Mean for Bossier City?

With these changes, the 2025 General Fund will show City Council salaries and benefits increasing by a total of $14,598. However, this adjustment does mean that the Fund Balance will decrease by the same amount. It’s a balancing act that the council is willing to take on, and it speaks volumes about their commitment to investing in the people who keep our city running smoothly!

Where Do We Go From Here?

The discussions and adjustments regarding budgets and salaries might feel like distant notions for some, but they aim for fairness and acknowledgment for every city employee. Phyllis McGraw’s dedication has not only helped keep the wheels of our city turning but has also highlighted the importance of ensuring employees are compensated fairly for their hard work.
