Bossier City Mourns the Loss of a Beloved Community Member

Bossier City, Louisiana – A vibrant life was tragically cut short as the community remembers Traci Lynne Ponder, who passed away at the age of 46 on November 14, 2024. A native of Morgan City, Louisiana, Traci was lovingly born on July 14, 1978, to James Allan Tierney and Mercedes Eve Tierney.

Funeral Services Scheduled

The community is invited to celebrate Traci’s life during her funeral services, set to take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Bellaire Baptist Church, located at 1210 Bellaire Blvd, Bossier City. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins, allowing family, friends, and community members to share their memories and pay their respects. Following the service, Traci will be laid to rest at Hill Crest Memorial Park, situated at 601 U.S. Hwy 80 East, Haughton. The solemn ceremony will be officiated by Dr. Randy Harper.

A Career Highlighted by Dedication

Traci’s career was nothing short of inspiring. She embarked on her media journey in August 1997 as a Master Control Operator for KWBJ TV 22. Thanks to her hard-hitting work ethics and determination, she quickly climbed the ranks—becoming a news reporter, then eventually the News Director and lead news anchor. Her ability to connect with the community through her reporting brought her widespread admiration.

In addition to her time at KWBJ, Traci transitioned into law enforcement media relations, where she left her mark at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Her career reached new heights when she was appointed as the Public Information Officer for the Bossier Police, Fire, and City in June of 2018. In this role, her dedication played a critical role in fostering a positive relationship between the community and its first responders.

A Family Woman at Heart

While her career was impressive, Traci was primarily known for her deep love for her family. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Jonathan Ponder, and their two precious daughters, Valentine (9) and Hannah (3). Traci’s maternal instincts shone brightly, and her family was undoubtedly the cornerstone of her life.

More Than Just a Professional

Beyond her professional life, Traci knew how to savor every moment. She enjoyed indulging in her passions—photography, gardening, and cooking—that brought her immense joy. Despite her roots in South Louisiana, Traci’s heart embraced the charm of North Louisiana, where she thrived and contributed positively to the community.

Her Legacy Lives On

Traci’s legacy is one of kindness and service. She touched so many lives and her impact will be felt for years to come. Her family, friends, and countless community members will cherish the memories and values she imparted. She is survived by her mother, Mercedes Moore Tierney, and numerous extended family members, including her in-laws and cherished friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Community Support and Tributes

As a final tribute to Traci, Honor Guards from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bossier City Police, and Bossier City Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. Additionally, the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office will act as honorary pallbearers. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scott McRight, Dr. Robert Massingill, and the dedicated staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont, Cornerstone Specialty Hospital, and Christus Hospice Shreveport-Bossier.

To honor Traci’s legacy, her family encourages memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children. Those interested can visit their respective websites for more information on donations.
