Exciting Times in Bossier City

Hey there, Bossier City! What a fantastic week we’ve had, haven’t we? The spirit of community was alive and well during National Night Out, a wonderful event that brought together our First Responders, City Leaders, and neighbors in a vibrant celebration of fellowship and safety. There was so much going on, from festive parades to delicious food trucks, and cozy gatherings sponsored by local churches! It was all aimed at strengthening our bonds and community vibes. The buzz is already starting for next year’s event, and Mayor Chandler has high hopes that this kind of camaraderie will become part of our everyday lives!

A New Addition to the City

In other news that’s bringing smiles to our faces, the Walter O. Bigby Carriageway is officially open! This project has been a long time coming, and it’s sure to make life a little easier for all of us in Bossier City. You can say goodbye to those long waits at the railway crossings. At the grand opening, Lisa Johnson, the President of the Bossier City Chamber of Commerce, highlighted how this development signifies a city that’s committed to growth and collaboration.

Many voices were heard during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Mayor Chandler and City Councilmen At-Large David Montgomery and Chris Smith. It was truly heartwarming to see Walter O. Bigby Jr. share his heartfelt pride in having the carriageway named after his father, a man known for his dignity and service to our community. This project was funded by taxpayer dollars, and with its completion, all of Bossier City has something to celebrate!

Cultural Celebrations and Safety Awareness

This week is also significant as we kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating the immense contributions and rich culture of the Hispanic community in our city. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the vibrant traditions and histories that shape Bossier City. Additionally, October brings us National Fire Prevention Month. Our dedicated Bossier City Fire Department is on a mission to visit elementary schools and educate the little ones about fire safety. We can just picture the smiles when “Freddie” the Fire Truck rolls up to school! Mayor Chandler got things rolling at Apollo Elementary, where he presented a proclamation to kick off the programs.

As we gather to celebrate these important occasions, October is also a month to shine a light on some critical issues. It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s show our support by wearing pink and spreading awareness for those affected by this disease. Also, keep in mind that October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It’s a time to remember and support those impacted by domestic violence, including both survivors and those who are facing these challenges quietly.
