Fall Community Celebrations

Bossier City Welcomes Fall with Exciting Developments!

As we welcome fall here in Bossier City, many of us might still be feeling the warmth of summer lingering in the air. Fall officially began on September 22nd, but let’s not let the temperatures fool us; there is a buzz of excitement happening in our city!

The Opening of the Walter O. Bigby Carriageway

One of the most awaited events is the grand opening of the Walter O. Bigby Carriageway. This new north-south route is a game changer for our city, aiming to alleviate those frustrating railway delays that we’ve all experienced during peak traffic hours. Our very own Mayor Tommy Chandler has shared his excitement about this development, saying, “The Walter O. Bigby Carriageway opening is another example of the great things happening in Bossier City.” With this new roadway, we can all look forward to smoother commutes!

National Night Out – A Celebration of Community

Speaking of great things, tonight is a special occasion as we celebrate National Night Out across Bossier City! This annual event is all about bringing neighborhoods together and promoting community engagement. Local first responders and city leaders will be out and about, meeting residents and fostering connections. If your neighborhood has yet to join in the festivities, don’t hesitate to check out what nearby communities are doing. It’s a fantastic chance to meet new faces and strengthen our bonds!

A Busy Week for Our Leaders

Earlier this week, Mayor Chandler took a moment to visit the Bossier City Fire Training Academy to inspire the newest class of firefighters. These brave recruits are preparing to graduate in early November, and the mayor reminded them how essential their roles are in keeping our community safe. As we approach Fire Prevention Week beginning October 1st, the Bossier City Fire Department will dive into educating children in local elementary schools about fire safety. Teaching kids important life-saving skills like “Stop, Drop, and Roll” is crucial for ensuring our young ones understand the importance of fire safety.

Community Conversations on Education

On Wednesday, the North Shreveport Luncheon Group held its monthly meeting, providing an excellent platform for residents to engage with Bossier Parish School Board members. Discussions focused on important topics such as school security and the future direction of education in our parish. Superintendent Jason Rowland was also present, providing vital support and contributing to meaningful conversations.

Welcoming the NAACP to Bossier City

Just recently, Mayor Chandler had the pleasure of welcoming members of the NAACP for their state conference entitled “Empowering Minds for Positive Change.” The mayor took the opportunity to express his admiration for the organization’s mission and encouraged everyone to immerse themselves in the rich culture, delicious food, and warm hospitality that Bossier City has to offer during their stay.

Time for Football!

As the temperatures begin to cool, it’s also the perfect time for football fans to get excited! While L.S.U. and Louisiana Tech are taking a break this week, Grambling will be facing Prairie View in the State Fair Classic in Dallas. For locals eager to see some action closer to home, Centenary College will host a home game this weekend—what a perfect way to support our local talent!

Wrapping Up the Week

That’s it for this week’s highlights from Bossier City! As we embrace the upcoming fall festivities and community events, let’s remember to stay safe and keep our city’s spirit alive. We can’t wait to see what next week brings! Don’t forget to stay up-to-date on all things happening in our community—see you next week!
