Bossier City Renames City Hall Drive to Honor Fallen Officer

Bossier City is taking steps to remember and honor the sacrifice of one of its fallen police officers, even after two decades have passed since the tragic event. Officer Trey Hutchison was killed on August 11, 2004, while responding to a 911 hang-up call, and the city will soon be renaming City Hall Drive to Hutchison Drive in his memory.

Memorial and Recognition

Recently, Bossier City held a memorial event marking the 20th anniversary of Officer Hutchison’s death, where his family gathered to remember his legacy. During this event, the police department presented several proposals to the Hutchison family, one of which included renaming the street. Chief of Police Daniel Haugen described the emotional atmosphere in the room, stating, “I can’t describe to you the amount of emotion that went on in that room whenever we did that; it was huge.”

City Council Approval

Following the memorial, the city council met to discuss the name change. It was unanimously approved, reflecting the collective desire of city officials and citizens to honor Hutchison’s memory. Louis Johnson, the Public Information Officer for Bossier City, emphasized this point: “It shows that the mayor, the city council, the police chief, and all the citizens of Bossier City are more than happy to recognize him and other officers to let them know that their sacrifice is respected and appreciated.”

Further Honors and Changes

In addition to renaming City Hall Drive, the city is also working to create a meaningful connection to Hutchison at the local library. They plan to assign it the address of 7204, which corresponds to Hutchison’s badge number from the Bossier City Police Department. This dedication serves as a reminder of the service and sacrifice made by the officer for the community.

Community Impact

As the name change approaches, it will serve as a daily reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by Officer Hutchison. Johnson remarked, “It represents that the ultimate sacrifice was given and that there is a family that still remembers, and they need to know that there is a department and a community that still remembers as well.”

While an official date for the renaming has not yet been announced, updates will be provided as Bossier City prepares to honor Officer Trey Hutchison through this meaningful gesture.
