Bossier City Food Drive Challenge Brings Community Together This Holiday Season

Bossier City Unites for a Worthy Cause This Holiday Season

Food Drive Challenge Brings Donations and Smiles

In a heartwarming twist of community spirit, the town of Bossier City rejoiced on Friday, November 22, as the Bossier Sheriff’s Office Food Pantry gratefully accepted a sizable donation of canned and packaged food items from the Bossier Parish Evaluation Center. With the holidays just around the corner, this show of generosity couldn’t have come at a better time.

Under the enthusiastic direction of Dr. Vicki Younger, the head honcho at the Bossier Parish School System Evaluation Center, a friendly rivalry took center stage. Dr. Younger initiated a fun-filled food drive challenge between her facility, the Bossier Educational Service Center (BESC), and the Central Office. The aim of the game? Gather as many canned goods as possible for those in need within the community!

Rallying Together for a Just Cause

What started as a small initiative turned into a phenomenal success story! The spirited competition brought together dedicated staff and volunteers from all three locations, and they exceeded expectations by collecting over 1,000 cans of food. Yes, you heard that right, more than a thousand cans!

All of this fantastic food will go to support two vital charitable efforts: the Spirit of Christmas food drive and the Sheriff’s Operation Blessing food pantry. These programs are critical, providing essential food assistance to families throughout Bossier Parish, ensuring no one goes hungry this holiday season.

Friendly Competition with a Sweet Reward

Not only did the challenge increase community involvement, but it also added a layer of enjoyment with the promise of a sweet reward for the winning team—an ice cream bar! After some intense collection efforts, it was Dr. Younger’s team that came out on top, amassing an impressive 700 cans of food, making them the champions of the day!

Operation Blessing: A Beacon of Hope

Operation Blessing is a non-profit food bank program run by the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, serving around 125 families each month with non-perishable food items. This initiative is vital for many residents, especially the elderly on fixed incomes, helping them put food on the table. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the volunteers from the Bossier Sheriff’s Posse and Ladies Auxiliary, many families can enjoy meals together, filling their hearts and homes with warmth and gratitude.

In light of this remarkable donation, Sheriff Julian Whittington expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the employees who rallied together to make it happen. “We all are so blessed for your heartfelt donation. Thanks to your generous contribution, families across Bossier Parish will be able to gather together around the table in love and thanksgiving this holiday season,” he declared.

How You Can Get Involved

The food collected will go a long way toward alleviating food insecurity during these chilly months. If you want to join in on the spirit of giving, the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive will take place on December 10th. To contribute, you can contact the Viking Substation at (318) 747-8600 or drop off your donations at 2510 Viking Dr., Bossier City, LA 71111. Remember, every can counts, and your support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

This holiday season, let’s spread love, kindness, and generosity. Together, we can create a community where everyone sits at the dinner table this festive season!
