Bossier City Mourns the Loss of Former Councilmember David Jones

Bossier City has lost a dedicated public servant and a beloved community figure with the passing of former councilmember David Jones. He died on April 3, 2025, at the age of 65 after bravely battling pneumonia.

A Legacy of Service

David Jones served on the Bossier City Council for an impressive 16 years, from 1997 to 2013. During his four terms in office, he made significant contributions that shaped the future development of Bossier City. Known for his intelligence and passion for serving the community, he prioritized job creation and future opportunities for the younger generation. This focus made him a respected figure among residents and local leaders alike.

Career and Contributions

Beyond his political career, Jones wore many hats throughout his life. He worked as the operations manager at CM Jones Oil Company for over two decades, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He then served 12 years as the director of risk management and physical plants at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC), further solidifying his role in enhancing educational facilities in the area.

In 2013, after completing his tenure on the City Council, Jones was appointed to the Red River Waterway Commission, where he continued to advocate for economic development projects and recreational opportunities. Jones was notably the chairman of the ports committee and involved in various initiatives that fostered growth and prosperity, including the acrive Bakowski Bridge of Lights LED lighting project. His vision for this project promoted unity between Shreveport and Bossier, crucial for community development.

A Passion for Community and Recreation

Aside from his significant roles in public service, Jones was known for his love of recreational initiatives. He actively supported projects like the Arthur Ray Teague trails, as well as adventure trails in the area. His enthusiasm for community enhancement was unparalleled, as he believed in the importance of public involvement in civic matters.

A Rich Family Heritage

David Jones was deeply rooted in the Bossier City community. He is survived by his loving daughter, Jessica Young, his mother, Letha “Speedy” Underwood Jones, his sister, Carla Jones Crow, and his fiancée, Kathryn Haley. His commitment to public service ran in the family, as his grandfather, Fred Jones, also served in various elected positions in Bossier City and parish.

Remembering His Spirit

Jones was not only a political figure but also a multifaceted individual known for his cooking skills and of refinishing camping gear that belonged to his grandfather. He was also a proud graduate of Louisiana Tech University, where he was active in the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity, eventually becoming its president. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Krewe of Gemini, which played a role in promoting local festivities since its inception in 1989.

Bossier City will hold a visitation service for David Jones on April 9, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Benton, LA. Those who knew him will remember his artistic vision for the future of Bossier City and how he consistently encouraged civic engagement among residents.
