Bossier City Traffic Alert: Major Ramp Closures for Construction Until 2025

Bossier City Traffic Alert: Ramp Closures Ahead!

Hey there, Bossier City residents! We’ve got some important news if you’re planning to travel around town or hit the interstate in the coming months. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just dropped a heads-up about some construction work that’s going to affect our daily commute.

What’s Happening?

So, here’s the scoop: the ramps at the LA 72 (Old Minden Road) interchange on Interstate 20 are closed due to construction activities. This work is part of the Phase 3 of the major rehabilitation project we’ve been hearing about for a while now. The contractor will be starting the process of removing the existing pavement on the outside travel lanes, and that’s going to make it impossible to access the interstate via the ramps off Old Minden Road.

When Will It End?

If you’re wondering when you can expect the ramps to reopen, the anticipated timeline for this closure is from now until April-May 2025. Of course, we know how unpredictable weather can be, so the exact timing might shift based on those conditions and other construction-related factors. So, keep your fingers crossed for some good weather!

Another Closure to Note

And here’s a little bit more info for you: three out of the four ramps at the LA 782-2 (Industrial Drive) interchange are also closed right now for reconstruction, but the good news is that they’re expected to reopen in March 2025. The eastbound on-ramp is the lucky one—it’s still open! Yay for that!

Access Points Still Available

While some ramps are closed, most interchanges along the interstate are still clear! Airline Drive, Barksdale Boulevard, and Benton Road will remain open for drivers needing to access I-20. Just a reminder: if you happen to be a commercial motor vehicle driver, the I-20 rehabilitation zone in Bossier City—from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive—is off-limits for you due to narrow lane widths. Instead, you’ll want to utilize the detour offered by I-220.

A Note to Travelers

For those of you just passing through on Interstate 20, you’re advised to take the I-220 detour as well to avoid potential traffic delays caused by these construction activities. We all know that construction can be a headache, and nobody wants to waste precious time sitting in traffic!
