Sponsor Our ArticlesEstablished 102 years ago in Bossier City, Tubbs Hardware is no ordinary hardware store. It’s a retail destination infused with a distinct ‘Cajun kick’ that keeps locals and visitors consistently streaming in. At its helm is owner Don Tubbs, a poured cement veteran of the hardware industry. He proudly offers customers everything from home essentials to landscaping materials and Cajun kitchen supplies.
“People come from all over to get their jambalaya pots, everything from the biggest to the smallest,” says Tubbs, who’s always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
But it’s not just the kitchenware that sets Tubbs Hardware apart. Nestled within the store is ‘The Cajun Corner’, Tubbs’ pride, and joy, and a virtual playground for any Bayou State enthusiast. Officially known as the Mardi Gras Store, this section provides a ‘one-stop-shop’ for everything needed to ‘let the good times roll’ during the annual Mardi Gras celebrations.
The inception of the Mardi Gras Store stems from Tubbs’ entrepreneurial acumen. Noticing the Mardi Gras parades passing right by his store, Tubbs decided to cater to the needs of Bossier City’s Mardi Gras revelers. Today, if you’re in need of beads, masks, costumes, bead-catching umbrellas, or just some Louisiana-themed snacks and food items, Tubbs Hardware is your destination.
However, the success story of Tubbs Hardware began under less than favorable circumstances. “My dad died when I was a teenager and I went to work for Mr. Holmes. He had a hardware store. He didn’t have any boys, so he owner-financed and sold me this store when I was 19,” Tubbs shares reflectively.
Now, four decades later, Tubbs Hardware has cemented itself as a must-visit icon in Bossier City. “So we kind of branded ourselves with Bossier City… We are known to be a fun, unique place to shop,” Tubbs points out with justifiable pride.
The Tubbs legacy is also continuing to grow with a second location in Benton which is managed by Tubbs’ son, further extending the reach of this beloved local institution.
With its unique fusion of traditional hardware supplies, Cajun culinary essentials, and Mardi Gras memorabilia, Tubbs Hardware has indeed become a cultural cornerstone in Bossier City. The entrepreneurial spirit that gave birth to this institution continues to guide its growth, ensuring that for generations to come, Tubbs Hardware will remain a true symbol of Louisiana.
