Bossier Parish: Expanding Water and Sewer Services for Development

In the bustling and vibrant setting of Bossier Parish, the local Police Jury has been hard at work this week, taking important steps to enhance water and sewer services that are essential for the area’s growth and development. During their regular meeting, the jury made some significant moves by awarding three bids that will benefit the Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District #1. These projects mainly focus on the Winfield Road booster station improvement and enhancements to the Winfield Road lift station and sewer facilities.

Unlocking Development with Essential Services

According to Glenn Benton, District 2 Juror, the underlying principle driving these improvements is simple yet profound: “If you don’t have water and sewer, you don’t have development.” Benton passionately expressed his commitment to ensuring that water and sewer services are available throughout the parish ever since he was elected. This mission is now taking shape with the recent initiative.

Expanding the Network

During the meeting, various local water systems reached out to him for incorporation into the district. Notably, St. Mary Community Water System Corporation from Plain Dealing and Bodcau Water Works, Inc. showed interest in joining. Additionally, River Point Racing and Equestrian Center, Inc. has been requested by the Department of Health in Shreveport to be included in the consolidated district. These smaller systems often struggle to obtain the necessary grants for improvements, which is where the support from the jury becomes invaluable.

Benton pointed out the importance of maintaining clean water, stating, “Small systems like these can’t get the grants for improvement that we can, which goes to help maintain clean water, which is what we are striving to do for all our residents in the parish.” It’s clear that this is more than just a logistical operation; it’s about enhancing the quality of life for the community.

Unanimous Support for the Community

With a spirit of cooperation and commitment to bettering the parish, the jury voted unanimously to start the incorporation process of these three independent water systems. Mentoring the Next Generation

Bossier Chapter of the Commission for Women, who brought a refreshing focus on youth empowerment. The chapter runs a mentoring program that provides around 12 senior girls, two from each local high school, the chance to develop their leadership and life skills. During the meeting, jurors Pam Glorioso from District 9, Juliana Parks from District 5, and Parish Treasurer Stacie Fernandez stepped up as mentors for these young women, emphasizing the importance of guiding the next generation.
