Caddo Parish School Board Faces Change as District 7 Seat Becomes Vacant

In the vibrant city of Shreveport, exciting changes are on the horizon for the local education scene as the Caddo Parish School Board has officially declared the District 7 seat vacant. This announcement comes on the heels of board member Darrin Dixon stepping down, creating a unique opportunity for community involvement in the area’s educational leadership.

Filling the Vacancy: A Step-by-Step Process

With this unexpected vacancy, the Caddo School Board wasted no time in announcing a clear and straightforward protocol for filling the empty seat. On October 1, the board outlined their process, assuring that the community would have a say in who steps up to represent them. Instead of appointing someone directly, a special seat election will eventually be held to fill the position permanently. In the meantime, the board is taking the proactive approach of selecting an interim representative.

Calling All Interested Residents

The board is now accepting letters of interest from residents of District 7, inviting those who are passionate about education and community service to throw their hats in the ring. If you’re a District 7 resident eager to make a difference, now is your chance! Letters can be submitted until 4 p.m. on October 14. Interested candidates should send their letters addressed to the President of the Board. You have the option to hand-deliver your letter to the Superintendent’s Office located at 1961 Midway Ave., or simply email it to dfeibel@caddoschools.org.

What to Include in Your Letter

Your letter should include important details like your date of birth, address, and how long you’ve called District 7 home. Don’t forget to also share a brief statement about why you want to serve as an interim board member. This is your chance to shine and show the board what you can bring to the role!

Interviews Scheduled for Candidates

All submitted letters will lead to interviews taking place during a special meeting on October 15 at 2:30 p.m. Each applicant will get 10 minutes to present their case on why they should be chosen. This is a golden opportunity to share your ideas, special skills, and views on what a board member should do. It’s also crucial to remember that these interviews will take place in an open session, and the names of all interested candidates will be announced to the public prior to the meeting.

Next Steps After Interviews

After hearing from all candidates on October 15, the board will take a vote to select the interim board member. The lucky individual selected will hold the position until a special election is held on March 29, 2025. This timeline gives the community a chance to have their voices heard twice, first through the interim appointment and again during the upcoming election.

Stay Informed

For those wanting to know more about the Caddo Parish School Board and its activities, be sure to keep updated through their official website. This transition period presents a fantastic opportunity for community members to step forward and engage in the critical process of shaping education in Shreveport. Your voice matters, and now is the time to use it!

As the community rallies around this vacancy, there’s no better time to get involved and be part of something truly important. Whether you’re considering applying or simply interested in the process, the Caddo Parish School Board welcomes your interest and input.
