Shreveport Celebrates Caddo Parish Magnet High School’s Remarkable Achievement

Shreveport, La. is buzzing with excitement as Caddo Parish Magnet High School proudly announces its recent recognition on the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll with a prestigious Gold distinction. This amazing achievement was unveiled by the College Board, a group dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for all students. The AP School Honor Roll is no small feat. It showcases schools that are not only increasing access to advanced courses but are also ensuring their students are achieving great results.

A Commitment to Education

What makes this honor so special? Well, Caddo Parish Magnet High School has demonstrated a serious commitment to fostering a college-going culture. This means providing students with a chance to earn college credit while they’re still in high school, allowing them to dive into challenging coursework that prepares them for their future in a big way.

Principal RJ Middleton beamed with pride, stating, “Being named to the 2024 AP School Honor Roll with Gold distinction and as an AP Access Honoree is a tremendous achievement for our school and a testament to the dedication of our students and staff.” He emphasized that the school believes in challenging their students and equipping them with skills for lifelong success. The school’s recognition underscores their commitment to ensuring that all students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, have the chance to participate in AP courses.

Impressive Participation Rates

Let’s take a closer look at the numbers. Over the past year, a whopping 72% of Magnet High seniors enrolled in at least one AP course. That’s a huge commitment! Even more impressive, 32% of the Class of 2024 went above and beyond by taking five or more AP classes. It’s clear that these students are not shying away from challenges; they’re embracing them with open arms!

And the results are just as impressive. A stunning 92% of students who took AP courses scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam. This achievement qualifies them for college credit, allowing students to get a head start on their higher education endeavors while still in high school. Talk about an academic advantage!

Among these talented students, 100 were recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction, showcasing the hard work and dedication they put into their studies.

Magnet High offers an impressive array of 31 AP courses, covering everything from English and art to statistics and microeconomics.
