Caddo Parish Community Stands Strong for Local Schools

News Summary

Caddo Parish voters recently approved the renewal of three crucial millage funding measures, ensuring continued support for local schools without raising taxes. This decision highlights community commitment to quality education and improved resources, while the school district considers consolidation plans aimed at increasing enrollment and sustainability. The strong backing of local governance and the new police chief indicates an engaged community ready to invest in its future.

Caddo Parish Voters Make Big Moves for Local Schools

In a friendly show of support, residents of Caddo Parish made it clear they care about their schools during a recent voting session on March 29. With ballots cast and excitement in the air, voters approved the renewal of three critical millage funding measures, which will help keep the educational gears turning smoothly for the next decade.

No New Taxes, Just Community Commitment

This isn’t just a win for the schools; it’s a win for the entire community as the millage renewals come with no increased taxes for residents. This means that while the funds will continue to flow into the schools, local families can continue budgeting without worrying about rising taxes. The renewed funding is vital for ensuring that students, teachers, and schools benefit from quality educational resources and competitive salaries.

A Bright Future for Education

The superintendent has expressed heartfelt gratitude for the ongoing community support, emphasizing that the approval of these millages signifies a shared commitment to nurturing young minds. This dedication goes hand in hand with Caddo Parish Schools earning a commendable ‘B’ rating from the Louisiana Department of Education, which marks the highest score in the district’s history.

Financially, the district has also been recognized for its prudent management. Standard and Poor’s recently upgraded the district’s financial outlook, reflecting measurable progress in its fiscal standing. The strong message is clear: investing in education pays dividends in the community.

Accountability and Transparency Matter

The district is prioritizing transparency regarding how the renewed funds will be utilized. Parents and community members can expect to see a focus on student success, as each dollar contributes to creating a positive learning environment and enriching educational experiences.

School Consolidations on the Table

Consolidation Plans to Increase Enrollment

275 students, could merge with J.S. Clark Academy, aiming for this transition to be completed by the end of the 2024-25 school year. Such consolidations aim to boost enrollment figures, thus making better use of educational facilities and resources.

Similarly, there are plans for Blanchard Elementary School to merge with Donnie Bickham Middle School, with an expected completion by the end of the 2025-26 school year. This proposed consolidation seeks to improve long-term viability for the affected students while freeing up funds for the aging infrastructure that currently serves Blanchard Elementary.

Another notable proposal includes consolidating Atkins Elementary School, which currently serves about 190 students, with the 81st Street Early Childhood Center. This merger intends to better utilize resources by boosting enrollment at Atkins School to around 300 students by the end of the 2025-26 school year.

Future Investments and Facility Plans

Election Results Show Strong Community Support
