Two Women in Louisiana Face Arrest Over Child Desertion Allegations

Two Women in Louisiana Arrested for Child Desertion

Child Desertion Charges Fly in Shreveport, Louisiana

Deep in the heart of Louisiana, Shreveport is once again brought into the spotlight with the recent arrest of two local women, accused of child desertion, prompting stern reminders about child safety from the local authorities.

The Child Desertion Arrests

In a suburban area of Shreveport, an urgent call regarding an unattended child led officers to the scene on Illinois Avenue. They discovered a 10-month-old child left alone in a car on the 13th of May. The immediate arrest of Shawnetterian Pearson, a 23-year-old woman, ensued. Shawnetterian now faces the substantial charge of child desertion.

Just one day later, police officers were alerted to a welfare concern. This call led officers to a residence along North Market Street, where they found two children under the age of 5, unattended. As a result, a 26-year-old woman, Deasia A. Brown, was arrested and accused on two counts of child desertion. According to booking records, Brown allegedly left the children unattended while she left to get an oil change.

A Word from the Police Department

In response to these disturbing incidents, the Shreveport Police Department made a public reminder with a stern tone about child safety. The warning, delivered by Police Cpl. Chris Bordelon, emphasized that children should only be left unsupervised if they are capable of fending for themselves. This self-sufficiency includes having the ability to call for help if necessary and the capacity to handle basic tasks, to avoid finding themselves in dangerous situations.

Bordelon added, “Small children should never be left to supervise other small children. We take these matters seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in our community.”

Urgent Appeal to the Public

The police department is urging the public to be proactive if they spot child neglect or have worries regarding a child’s welfare. They advise an immediate call to the Shreveport police to help ensure the safety of the child or children involved.
