Sponsor Our ArticlesA significant multi-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 220 westbound in Shreveport, causing major traffic delays. It involved an 18-wheeler and another vehicle, leading to significant congestion. Local authorities are on-site managing the situation and advising drivers to consider alternate routes to avoid the area. Previous incidents on the same road further underscore the traffic woes in this region, making today’s news important for local residents and travelers alike.
Shreveport residents, we have some news that might just make you reconsider your Saturday afternoon plans! A major multi-vehicle accident took place on Interstate 220 westbound near the intersection with I-49 south at around 1:30 PM today, and it’s causing quite the traffic turmoil.
It seems that an 18-wheeler collided with another vehicle, sending both vehicles crashing into the median. As you can imagine, this has led to significant traffic congestion in the area, leaving drivers stuck and frustrated.
As soon as the news hit, local authorities rushed to the site to manage the situation. You can expect more details to roll in as they work to clear the wreckage and get traffic moving smoothly again. If you’re planning to head that way today, be prepared for delays — it might be a good idea to stay updated on the situation and consider alternate routes!
Coincidentally, this isn’t the first time I-220 has seen a major snafu. Just a few years back on July 25, 2019, a similar incident took place at the Cross Lake Bridge on I-220 eastbound around 1:00 PM. That accident involved six vehicles, including yet another 18-wheeler, leading to traffic extending three miles! During that chaos, all lanes were initially blocked, but they managed to reopen by 2:45 PM. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported in that instance, and all drivers were able to carry on without needing hospital care.
For those stuck in the current traffic mess, the Shreveport Police Department has been advising drivers to steer clear of the affected area until officials give the all-clear. It’s wise to plan your routes accordingly and perhaps grab a snack while you’re waiting! It’s never a bad time to discover a new favorite spot.
If you’re thinking that one accident on I-220 is enough, think again! Not long ago, there was a separate incident where a truck driver suffered serious injuries when his 18-wheeler flipped over on the same interstate at Lakeshore Drive. In that case, rescuers had to extricate the driver from the cab, and the injuries were severe enough that he was flown to Ochsner LSU Health via Life Air. The truck was carrying trusses at the time, adding a whole new level of chaos to the scene.
So, if you have plans that involve traveling through this area today, it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on traffic updates and maybe even postpone if you can. The afternoon sun might be shining, but traffic delays and accidents like these can easily turn a pleasant Saturday into a frustrating ordeal.
Stay safe out there, Shreveport! Remember, it’s always better to arrive late than to risk being part of another accident. Let’s hope traffic clears up soon and we can all enjoy the weekend without any more hiccups!
