The Shreveport Police Department says on Saturday, March 2 around 5 p.m., officers tried to pull over a car at the intersection of W 70th Street and W Canal Street.
The driver, later identified as Xavier Jamison, 24, reportedly refused to stop and led police on a chase through the area. After a short chase, Jamison stopped in the 2900 block of Sunset Circle, got out of the car, and tried to run away. Officers were able to catch him though.
During Jamison’s arrest, it was discovered he was in possession of drugs and a gun, police say. Further investigation revealed Jamison is a convicted felon, meaning it is illegal for him to have a gun. Jamison is charged with possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
No one was injured during the chase, police say. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with fleeing from law enforcement.
For convicted felons like Xavier Jamison, possessing a firearm can lead to serious legal consequences. Federal law prohibits felons from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition. Violating this law can result in additional charges and potential imprisonment.
Law enforcement agencies across the country continue to work diligently to ensure public safety and uphold the law. Stay informed about police operations in your area to help maintain a secure community environment.
