Exciting Revitalization Plans Set to Transform Downtown Shreveport

Exciting Plans Unfold for Downtown Shreveport!

Shreveport, Louisiana is abuzz with fresh energy as the new executive director of the Downtown Development Authority shares his enthusiastic vision for the area. Cedric B. Glover, who has a rich background as a former state legislator and Shreveport mayor, aims to attract both businesses and residents to breathe new life into downtown.

A Premier Business Hub

According to Glover, “Downtown is still the premiere place within the ArkLaTex for you to come and do business.” His commitment to keeping businesses rooted in downtown Shreveport is clear. Why is this so important? Glover explains that having a vibrant workforce in the area is crucial for stimulating local dining and leisure activities. “Without that source of workforce within our downtown, then the people that can be called upon, that can be marketed to, to come in and have breakfasts, have lunch, have dinner, go to a bar to be able to engage in that leisure activity that we also want as a part of downtown,” he stated passionately.

Combining Work and Living Spaces

One of Glover’s key goals is to increase housing options while attracting new businesses. He envisions multiuse or mixed-use facilities where people can both work and live. This concept could pave the way for more dynamic downtown communities, something residents have long desired. Glover believes that Shreveport has some “substantial opportunities” for creating these spaces, making it possible for individuals to enjoy the convenience of living and working in the same area.

Revitalization Initiatives

Exciting changes are already underway with plans to move hundreds of government employees into a brand-new state office building, which has sat vacant for 30 years. Thanks to the state Bond Commission’s recent approval of $75 million for construction, this project is on the fast track. “Combined, you will now have a total project that will have slightly over $100 million,” Glover explained, showcasing the significant investment going into revitalizing the feel of downtown Shreveport.

Capitalizing on Infrastructure

With an eye on the existing infrastructure, Glover also highlights the potential for supporting the local film industry as a way to boost downtown revitalization. Notably, the growing interest in Shreveport from recognized figures like Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson presents new avenues for growth. “What we have right now with Mr. Jackson’s interest in Shreveport is the ability to step back into that space and do so with someone who is a documented success when it comes to the production of content,” Glover remarked, hinting at exciting developments on the horizon.

Addressing Homelessness and Business Incentives

Glover has not overlooked the pressing issue of homelessness. He is eager to find solutions and incentives to support both existing and new businesses to create a more inclusive and vibrant downtown area. Drawing from his previous experience in improving downtown Baton Rouge by relocating state buildings to that city’s core, Glover emphasizes that a similar strategy could work wonders for Shreveport.

Looking Ahead

As Glover settles into his new role, he promises that more details about his plans for downtown Shreveport will emerge soon. The revitalization journey is just beginning, and with such a passionate leader at the helm, there’s a palpable sense of optimism in the air. Residents and business owners alike are encouraged to keep their ears to the ground for exciting developments that will shape the future of their beloved downtown.
