Dr. Wanda Henderson Thomas Honored with 2024 ATHENA International Leadership Award in Shreveport
Shreveport, LA – In a heartwarming celebration of leadership, the Greater Shreveport Chamber proudly announced that Dr. Wanda Henderson Thomas has been awarded the 2024 ATHENA International Leadership Award. The announcement was made during the 34th Annual Leadership Award Luncheon on November 14, 2024, an event that brought together many prominent community members and supporters, and was graciously sponsored by Ochsner LSU Health.

Dr. Thomas is a full professor at the Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Shreveport. She plays several key roles, including that of the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program Director and Associate Dean for Admissions. Over her remarkable 24-year career, she has been a guiding force in shaping the future of healthcare within the region, having mentored countless young women and contributed to the professional growth of students and colleagues alike.
Beyond her impressive professional achievements, Dr. Thomas is a pillar in the Shreveport community. She’s actively involved in several organizations, including the Shreveport Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Red River Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and the Shreveport Chapter of Links, Inc.. Her commitment to giving back is evident as she also holds the position of board member and treasurer for the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.
