Benton, Louisiana: Elderly Man’s Fatal Shooting Leads to Indictment of Two Suspects by Grand Jury

Benton, Louisiana: Grand Jury Indicts Two in Fatal Shooting of Elderly Man

In a shocking turn of events, a grand jury in Bossier Parish has indicted a man and a woman in connection with the tragic shooting death of Wilmer Monette, an elderly resident of Shreveport. The incident occurred on June 13 outside a home in the Jamestowne subdivision, causing ripples of grief and outrage throughout the community.

What Happened?

According to local authorities, Delandro Fleming, 22, and Destiny Shante Landers, 23, both from Shreveport, are facing charges of second-degree murder. Reports suggest that robbery was the apparent motive behind Monette’s death, which transpired shortly after he met with the suspects to hand over a $100 reward.

Monette had previously left a sign at a convenience store offering $100 for anyone who found his lost keys. After receiving information about the keys, he met with Fleming, who was recorded on security video accepting the reward. Following their meeting, the two suspects allegedly followed Monette to his daughter’s home.

The Crime Scene

As Monette arrived at his daughter’s home, his family heard gunshots and rushed outside to find him on the ground. Observers reported seeing Fleming rummaging through Monette’s pockets before fleeing the scene in a car driven by Landers.

Swift Arrests

Bossier Parish detectives wasted no time identifying Fleming as a suspect, leading to his arrest with the help of a tactical team. Landers was also apprehended shortly thereafter. Notably, records indicate that Fleming should have been incarcerated due to a previous conviction but was mistakenly released due to a clerical error.

Additional Indictments

In a separate case, the grand jury also issued indictments against two men for first-degree rape. The first, Zachary Dewayne Doolittle, 38, faces allegations of sexually assaulting a victim under the age of 13. The other, Demarcus Devon Robinson Clark, 37, is accused of multiple charges, including sexual assault and domestic abuse battery.

Community Response

The events leading to the tragic death of Wilmer Monette have understandably left the community in shock. The brutal reality of crime reminds residents that safety is a constant concern in their daily lives. As investigations continue, many hope for justice for Monette and his grieving family.
