Highland Neighborhood Celebrates at Fête du Veau Festival!

What a day to be in the Highland neighborhood! Last Sunday, November 24th, locals and visitors alike gathered for the third annual Fête du Veau, or calf festival, held at the renowned Fat Calf Brasserie. This wonderful culinary event not only spotlighted the rich flavors and offerings from the brasserie but also marked a significant milestone – its fifth anniversary.
Anthony Felan, the chef and co-owner, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Today we are celebrating our five-year anniversary. It’s a great experience being able to be here at Creswell and see all the turnout here with all the amazing support.” His remarks truly echoed the sentiments of the crowd, showing just how far the brasserie has come since it opened its doors right before the pandemic struck.
A Feast for the Senses
The Fat Calf Brasserie provided a delightful setting, showcasing delicious food, fine beverages, and even some lively entertainment that had everyone smiling. Guests had the opportunity to sample over 35 premium wines, thanks to a collaboration with Cuban Liquor. The air was filled with laughter and chatter, all while guests savored the exquisite offerings.
Kristin Lambert, a wine specialist from Cuban Liquor, joined in the festivities and shared her enthusiasm, stating, “It’s an amazing event. I’m glad that we get to come out here on a beautiful day once a year and celebrate their anniversary and their success.” And judging by the crowd, it was more than just an event; it felt like a community celebration.
Happy Tummies, Happy Hearts
Among the attendees was first-timer Lynn Laird, who shared her excitement, saying, “This is my first adventure at the Fat Calf, and I am absolutely loving the experience. My foodie friends invited me, and I have had so many delicious wines and so many samplings of great food… it’s a good life.” Who doesn’t love a good food adventure?
Returning for his third time, Guy Stutes couldn’t contain his joy, saying, “This is my third time to be here, and I love it every time. It’s really good. The food’s great. The people are great. The wine is great.” It’s clear that Fat Calf has developed a loyal fan base.

As the day went on, the true spirit of the event shone through. The Fête du Veau not only celebrated amazing food and drinks but also paid homage to the wonderful patrons who have supported Fat Calf Brasserie all these years. Co-owner Amanda Felan shared her pride, stating, “It’s really amazing. I’m so proud of us. Our staff is a huge part of what makes it work. But the community that comes here week after week and is always supporting not just us but all the other local places.” Her words remind us how vital community support is for local businesses, especially through tough times.
Feeling grateful, Amanda added, “I just don’t know that if we had been in a city somewhere else, I just don’t know that we would have had the support to make sure that we survived all those crazy times.” Isn’t it uplifting to witness such strong ties in our community?
