STONEWALL, La. — In a delightful turn of events, the folks here in Stonewall can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the construction on State Highway 3276 has officially wrapped up. The state Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) made the announcement today, confirming that the project has been completed a remarkable three months ahead of schedule! Can you believe it?
To give you a little background, this important roadway, also known as the Stonewall-Frierson Road, has been a vital connector for many years. It serves as a key route running for approximately 4.6 miles between Interstate 49 and U.S. Highway 171, making it a busy corridor for both cars and big trucks alike (we’re talking about around 9,000 vehicles each day!). Due to its heavy traffic, especially from 18-wheelers, the road has faced some real challenges over the years.
Let’s face it—after years of patching and repatching, this road was in desperate need of some proper care. That’s where the innovative approach by DOTD comes into play! In this $15 million project, they implemented a cutting-edge technology featuring a grid-like material called Geocell. This unique material, filled with stone, has been used to reinforce the base of the roadway and support the heavy loads it endures every day.
This innovative solution isn’t just a temporary fix; it’s a solid long-term upgrade that will help ensure the longevity and safety of this well-traveled route. Alongside the Geocell installation, the project also covered extensive base repairs, full-depth patching, asphalt paving, enhanced drainage systems, and, of course, new curbs, gutters, permanent signage, and striping. Talk about a makeover!
The timing couldn’t be better for this project completion, especially given Stonewall’s rapid growth. With many residential and commercial developments springing up alongside Highway 3276, improved infrastructure is crucial for supporting this expanding community. The ease of access provided by the newly renovated road will surely play a significant role in fostering further development opportunities.
As the construction dust settles, the residents are equally excited about the better-driving conditions and increased safety for all road users. And let’s not forget the reduced inconvenience for everyone trying to navigate the detours and construction zones over the last few months. Now, it’ll be smooth sailing—or should we say smooth driving—along this important stretch!
And while we’re at it, there’s a lot happening beyond the road in Stonewall and surrounding areas! Over in Shreveport, the Centenary College Choir recently dazzled the audience with their annual “Rhapsody in View” performance—a cultural gem everyone looks forward to each year. Plus, with the upcoming general elections just around the corner, many residents are gearing up to make their voices heard. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this community!
As we look to the future, we can be thankful for advancements in technology that allow for infrastructure improvements like those seen on Highway 3276. Residents of Stonewall, grab your keys and hit the road—it’s time to enjoy the fruits of this hard work!
