Bossier City Infrastructure Update: Transition to Phase 3 of I-20 Reconstruction Begins!
Hey there, Bossier City residents! We’ve got some important news hot off the press that you’ll want to hear if you’re used to driving along I-20. The ongoing reconstruction of our beloved interstate is making significant strides as it gears up to enter Phase 3 — and it all kicks off tonight!
Organization of Nightly Closures
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, starting tonight, Monday, November 11, 2024, there will be full nightly closures of I-20 westbound. This closure will be from I-220 all the way to the Airline Drive interchange. Don’t worry, though! All of the ramps at Airline Drive will stay open and keep traffic flowing freely!
Mark your calendars because these nightly closures will stretch over the next five nights. The closure will occur from approximately 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.. The contractors are getting ready to perform some important work that involves getting those concrete barriers moved to clear the way for new travel lanes. Safety first, right?
Upcoming Traffic Shift
Now, here comes the exciting part! On Saturday, November 16, 2024, traffic will finally shift to the new travel lanes on I-20 westbound, covering the stretch from I-220 to Airline Drive. Can you already see the light at the end of the tunnel? But wait, there’s more! The transition from Airline Drive to Hamilton Road is also on the horizon and will happen in the upcoming weeks.
A Quick Recap of Recent Changes
As a quick reminder for everyone, the partial shift for the eastbound direction has already taken place earlier in late October 2024, starting at the Industrial Drive interchange. That is still an ongoing process as well, so if you drive that route, keep your eyes peeled for any changes.
Reconstruction projects may seem like a hassle at times, but they’re essential for improving our infrastructure. Once it’s complete, we’ll have safer, better-maintained roadways to enjoy — not to mention less traffic congestion in the long run!
