Attention Bossier City Drivers: Nightly Closures on I-20 Westbound Starting December 5th Due to Rehabilitation Project

Attention Bossier City Drivers: I-20 Westbound Closures Ahead!

Hey there, Bossier City residents! Buckle up because we’ve got some important news for all you motorists out there. Starting on the night of Thursday, December 5, 2024, I-20 westbound at the I-220 interchange will be undergoing some nighttime closures. We know, we know – road work can be a real hassle, but it’s all part of making our roads safer and better for everyone!

When and Why Are They Closing the Road?

The closures will take place from approximately 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for four consecutive nights. This work is part of the ongoing I-20 major rehabilitation project, which has already seen some progress – a portion of the traffic was shifted from Industrial Drive to Airline Drive not too long ago. The whole purpose of these nighttime closures is to help the contractors prepare concrete barriers, which is necessary so that they can safely shift traffic onto the newly constructed lanes. Exciting, right?

What’s Involved in the Project?

Now, you might be wondering what’s going on with this massive project. Well, once all traffic in both directions is shifted onto these new travel lanes, the project will officially transition into Phase 3, which is the final phase of construction. What does that mean for you? In Phase 3, they’ll be fully reconstructing the outside (right) lanes of the interstate from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive in both directions. Not only that, but they’ll also be rebuilding ramps at several key locations – including Industrial Drive, Benton Rd., Barksdale Blvd., and Airline Dr. Talk about a big makeover for our roads!

Need to Get Around? Here’s the Plan!

So, how are you going to get around these closures? Great question! During the nightly closures, westbound traffic on I-20 will be detoured to I-220. We highly recommend you plan your routes accordingly and allow some extra travel time, just to be safe. Remember that this work is always weather permitting, so keep an eye out for any weather updates that might affect the schedule.

Stay Informed and Stay Safe!

It’s essential for all of us to stay informed during these construction phases. Bossier City residents and all motorists are being reminded to drive with care in and around the construction zone. Look out for road crews and their equipment, and please remember to leave sufficient space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.

Also, it’s not just cars on the road – whether you’re driving, walking, or biking near the area, staying vigilant in an active construction zone is crucial for everyone’s safety!

Get More Information!

If you need more details or updates, don’t hesitate to call 511 or visit www.511la.org. You can also download the Louisiana 511 mobile app for on-the-go updates! For those traveling from out of state, the hotline is 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Additionally, you can keep track of the project’s progress at the www.dotd.la.gov website by selecting MyDOTD or checking their Facebook and Twitter pages.

In conclusion, while these closures might be a bit inconvenient, they are a sign of progress toward our community’s future. Thank you for your patience and cooperation, Bossier City! Safe travels!
