For the fifth consecutive year, Bossier Parish students are set to exhibit their creative prowess at the highly anticipated i3 Art Expo. The event, scheduled to take place from May 2-4 at the Bossier Civic Center, serves as a platform to showcase the diverse artistic talents flourishing within the public school system.
Christy Bucker, the executive director of i3, expressed excitement about the upcoming expo, stating, “We have a lot of artistic talent in Bossier Parish Schools, and we want to showcase that in all its forms. This event underscores the value Bossier Schools place on the arts, recognizing their role in shaping well-rounded individuals.”
The three I’s in the i3 Art Expo stand for inspiration, imagination, and innovation, reflecting the diverse forms of art that will be on display. From visual and literary art to vocal and musical performances, filmmaking, animation, and interactive activities, the expo promises a vibrant celebration of creativity.
Attendees can look forward to a range of attractions, including a digital media showcase, a short film competition, an art gallery, student performances, a scavenger hunt, book fair, and a costume contest. Embracing this year’s theme inspired by STAR WARS, aliens, and space, participants are encouraged to unleash their imagination through unique and otherworldly attire.
The addition of a costume contest, centered around cosplaying, aims to engage the community in a fun and interactive way. Participants will be judged based on creativity, adherence to the theme, and originality, with an “overall best costume” prize up for grabs. This initiative underscores the expo’s commitment to evolving with the interests of students and attendees.
Amidst a landscape that often prioritizes STEM disciplines, Christy highlights the significance of arts education in fostering well-rounded students. While acknowledging the value of science and technology, she emphasizes the critical role of the arts in nurturing creativity and innovation.
Christy states, “We want students to engage in hands-on artistic pursuits, not just digital creations. The arts play a vital role in preparing students for a variety of careers that require artistic thinking and skill.”
With nearly 800 entries already received and more submissions expected in categories such as theater, film, and 3D arts, the i3 Art Expo continues to expand each year. This surge in student involvement exemplifies the impact of public schools in fostering creativity and artistic expression.
As the expo draws near, Christy emphasizes the desire to showcase the students’ artwork while providing an array of interactive and innovative activities for the public to enjoy. From robotics demonstrations to diverse art forms, the event serves as a testament to the community’s support for arts education.
Christy concludes, “We want the community to witness how much we value the opportunity to educate their children and foster a culture of creativity and expression within Bossier Parish Schools.”
