Join the Fight Against Domestic Violence in Shreveport!

Shreveport, we need your help! The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office is rallying together with the community to tackle the alarming issue of domestic violence. This year, they’ve launched a heartwarming initiative called the Purple Box Campaign in partnership with Shreve Memorial Library. The goal? To collect essential toiletries for adults and children who have been affected by domestic abuse.

Why Toiletries, You Ask?

It’s a tough truth, but unfortunately, many individuals fleeing an abusive environment often leave with absolutely nothing. Imagine having to escape a dangerous situation and not even being able to grab your toothbrush or some basic hygiene products! That’s where the Purple Box Campaign steps in.

Through this campaign, local organizations like Project Celebration, Inc. can provide vital support. PCI is a nonprofit dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and children who have experienced violence. They offer direct services across several parishes including Caddo, Bossier, DeSoto, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, and Webster. What’s more, they run two domestic violence shelters, providing safe housing to women and children who are trying to escape dangerous situations.

How You Can Make a Difference

If you’re wondering how you can help, it’s easy! A purple box will be set up at every branch of the Shreve Memorial Library located in Shreveport. All you have to do is drop off some everyday personal hygiene items. Think about items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and any other toiletries you can spare. Each and every donation counts and can make a world of difference for someone in need.

The campaign will be accepting donations throughout the month of October, so mark your calendar and head to your nearest library branch! The libraries are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. If you want to stop by on a Sunday, the Broadmoor and Hamilton/South Caddo branches are open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why It Matters

Domestic violence affects all of us, whether we realize it or not. By participating in initiatives like the Purple Box Campaign, we can show our support for those who are seeking help and a fresh start. Every contribution, no matter how small, can help Project Celebration, Inc. continue its invaluable work in our community.

So, as we move through this month of awareness and action, let’s come together and show our love and support for those who need it the most. Be a part of something bigger than yourself—lend a hand, donate some toiletries, and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Conclusion

Remember, together we can make a significant impact in the fight against domestic violence. Let’s fill those purple boxes to the brim and spread the message that no one has to face violence alone. Your kindness can change lives, so join the campaign today!
