Sponsor Our ArticlesBOSSIER CITY, La. – As we are just days away from Juneteenth, hundreds of people began the festivities early with a celebration Saturday (June 15) in Bossier City. Stonewall Baptist Church and the Bossier City NAACP branch held an event titled Jubilee. It included food, games, entertainment, and lots of fun. Organizers say this event celebrates African American history and Freedom Day, empowering the community, just in time for Juneteenth.
Stonewall Baptist Church said this is the first time they’ve hosted Jubilee, and they are already planning to celebrate Juneteenth again with another event next year.
“It was great. It was a good community, neighborhood involvement. We had vendor booths, free food, games. We had a wonderful time today,” said one of the organizers.
“We should always celebrate because when we look back from where we come, it is just wonderful for people to get together and embrace what happened back then, and even right now. And thirdly, it should be an educational piece,” they added.
The event at Stonewall Baptist Church not only highlighted the significance of Juneteenth but also served as a platform for unity and celebration of African American heritage. With a mix of entertainment, food, and games, the Jubilee brought people together in a spirit of joy and camaraderie.
This early celebration of Juneteenth at Stonewall Baptist Church set a positive tone for the upcoming holiday. As the community continues to honor the legacy of Freedom Day, events like the Jubilee serve as reminders of the progress made and the work that still lies ahead in promoting equality and justice for all.
