This weekend, the vibrant city of Shreveport, Louisiana, is preparing for a delightful spectacle that promises to dazzle locals and visitors alike. The much-anticipated Krewe of Gemini Parade is set to take place, and this year’s theme, “Dream Catcher,” is sure to spark a lot of excitement!
Fans of the parade can look forward to the majestic presence of the Gemini XXXVI Royal Court, featuring Captain Tony Richardson, King Mike Goslin, and Queen Janie Boydstun. They will be joined by hundreds of enthusiastic krewe members, and yes, there will be more than 30 floats and entries that will roll through the streets of Shreveport. It’s not just a parade; it’s a full-blown extravaganza!
The parade is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. from the Sci-Port Discovery Center, so make sure you snag the best viewing spot along the route! If you’re unable to attend in person, don’t fret. You can catch all the action live on social media at 3:30 p.m. and if you’re looking for some in-depth coverage, tune in from 5 p.m. for a full broadcast. For those eager to relive the best moments, a highlights show will air at 10 p.m., so there’s no excuse to miss out!
This year, the grand marshal of the parade is Chief John Mark Davis, a wonderful choice to lead the celebration. With a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1989, the Krewe of Gemini has been creating magical moments for over three decades. Their first parade took place on February 24, 1990, and each year since, they have brought smiles and festive cheer to the community.
The event is expected to draw between 300,000 to 500,000 lively spectators along a stunning 5½ mile route. The parade will wind its way along Clyde Fant Parkway, turn onto the Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, and wrap up at East Kings Highway Park. As the big day approaches, be mindful that a hard closure of the parade route will kick off at 1 p.m. on the parade day, and Clyde Fant Parkway will be closed starting at 7 p.m. the night before—so plan your visit accordingly!
As with any grand event, keeping everyone safe is a top priority. There will be law enforcement on hand to ensure that parking ordinances are followed, and emergency vehicles can access the parade route quickly. Remember, no saving of parking spaces or setting up tents is allowed before 7 a.m. on parade day, so arrive early to secure your spot!
And of course, what’s a parade without some fantastic throws? The Krewe of Gemini is known for its generosity, tossing out nearly 2 million throws each year, which includes beads, toys, and specialty themed items. So, get ready to catch some goodies and embrace the festive spirit!
Not only is this parade a feast for the eyes, but it’s also a *powerhouse for the local economy*! It’s projected to create an impressive economic impact of over $16 million, with direct spending expected to exceed $9 million. Clearly, the Krewe of Gemini parade is a highlight not just for families and friends but for the businesses that thrive on this festive occasion!
Get ready, Shreveport! The Krewe of Gemini Parade promises its usual blend of glamour, entertainment, and local flavor. Whether you’re there in person or following along virtually, there’s excitement in the air, and everyone can feel it!
