Shreveport’s Lakeside Gardens to Undergo $38.1 Million Renovation and Expansion

Shreveport’s Lakeside Gardens Set for Major Revamp

In Shreveport, a city that’s recently been in the spotlight for some less-than-stellar apartment living conditions, there’s a refreshing twist of good news. This week, city leaders gathered with smiles and cameras capturing the moment, celebrating a significant milestone—an investment of $38.1 million to renovate the beloved Lakeside Gardens apartment complex. This revitalization effort is a huge step towards renting out quality homes in the community.

Lakeside Gardens, a 55-year-old establishment, first opened its doors in 1969, thanks to the vision of the Rev. Amos Terrell, who was then the pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church. Over the years, the complex has provided shelter to many families, offering apartments with 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms. However, time has taken its toll, and the need for renovations couldn’t be ignored any longer.

A Fresh Start for Residents

Developer Jasmine Winston-Wilson, who is spearheading the renovations, spoke candidly about the project and its importance. “Given the age of the property and lack of upgrades, it was becoming increasingly difficult to provide quality affordable housing,” she noted. Without these improvements, she added, “Lakeside Gardens would cease to exist.” Now that is a serious wake-up call!

But don’t worry—this project isn’t just about repairs! An exciting expansion is also on the table; during the renovation, 22 additional units will be added, raising the total to a welcoming 110 units. This means more families will have the opportunity to find a home that suits their needs.

Promises for the Future

State Sen. Sam Jenkins was also present at the celebration, and he couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. “This is a welcome change,” he declared. Jenkins emphasized the importance of continuing to invest in the urban core and inner-city areas, stating that with renovations like these, families will “live here, be safe, and have a nice environment.”

Winston-Wilson echoed these sentiments, saying, “These renovations allow us to continue to serve generations to come.” It sounds like Lakeside Gardens is not just a place to stay—it’s becoming a community focal point, a nurturing space where families can thrive and feel at home.

A Commitment to Quality Living

Many in the Shreveport community are eagerly anticipating the positive changes to come. As the project gets underway, it brings hope to those looking for safe, comfortable, and affordable living options. Whether you’re a longtime resident or thinking of moving to the area, this is indeed a development worth celebrating.

So, as renovations progress, the vision of a welcoming environment is becoming a reality. With shiny new units and a focused aim to enhance the quality of life for all residents, Lakeside Gardens is on track to shine brighter than ever before. Shreveport is ready for some welcome change, and this investment seems to be a fantastic step in that direction.
