Award-Winning Artist Lisandra Di Liberto Torres’ Artwork to be Displayed at Shreveport’s Popular Pub Bear’s

Work of artist Lisandra Di Liberto Torres to be showcased at Bear’s

SHREVEPORT, La. – An award-winning Latino artist, whose work is inspired by her hometown, will be showcased at a popular Shreveport pub, Bear’s.

On July 11, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Bear’s, located at 1411 Fairfield Avenue, will hold a showcase for the artwork of Lisandra Di Liberto Torres. Lisandra’s work is heavily influenced by her hometown of Hatillo, Puerto Rico, known as a milk production center.

Her work is well known for red cows with wings, illustrating her homesickness for her home with a fantasy twist. “I was homesick, so I started drawing cows,” said Brown. “I wanted to fly away to home, so I gave my cows wings, but I was in love with my ex-husband whose home is here in Shreveport, so I made the cows red to reflect love, crawfish, the red river, and spicy food (Louisiana),” added Lisandra.

Her work is diverse, ranging from still-life objects and surreal subjects such as fish endowed with legs, similar to her red cows with wings, and human figures portraying women in fluid poses and muted colors.

Torres’ was named one of eight “Louisianians of The Year” in 2014 and was recently chosen as one of 13 regional artists whose works were exhibited as part of “The Latino Art Project”, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Artistic Roots and Journey

Torres did not start as an artist; she studied marketing in Puerto Rico but comes from artistic roots. Her father drew and other Italian family members painted and sculpted, eventually, she was also drawn to the study of art herself. She attended the Escuela Nacional Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú in Santana.
