In the charming town of Leesville, Louisiana, art lovers are in for a treat as a talented Shreveport artist, Linda Moss, is set to showcase her work in an upcoming exhibition at Gallery One Eleven. This delightful event is scheduled for October 19, starting at 6 p.m. and promises to be a warm celebration of creativity and expression right in the heart of this vibrant community.
Linda Moss, a true passion-driven artist, has deep roots in Louisiana, having been born in Natchitoches before returning to Shreveport in 2008. Her artistic journey began at a young age, with childhood memories of finger painting filling her heart with joy. “It was always my favorite thing. And then, by second grade, I knew I wanted to be an artist,” she shares, illustrating the magnetic pull she felt towards creativity from a young age.
Moss has an innate feeling that she was meant to be an artist, expressing a sentiment that resonates with many who have found their calling. “I just wasn’t made to be in a cubical. You can do what you need to do, but this is my gift. It’s the easiest way to tell the stories I have,” she explains, highlighting the therapeutic nature of her art. For her, art is a language, one that speaks of her experiences and interactions with the world around her.
Nature plays a significant role in Linda’s artwork. She specializes in capturing the beautiful interplay of light and flora, creating enchanting pieces that bring the essence of the outdoors inside. “The way the light catches something will sometimes make me stop the car and get out the camera,” she reveals, reflecting her deep appreciation for the world around her. This connection to nature is not only personal but a way of conveying messages that might come from something greater than ourselves.
As a mixed-media artist, Moss primarily works with acrylic paints mixed with caulk additives on canvas woodboard. However, she plans to rekindle her love for oil paints this winter, thus exploring new textures and techniques. “In the past, I used fabric pieces in my art because it reminds me of my childhood,” she reminisces. Inspired by her mother’s sewing passion, Linda’s evolution has led her to replicate fabric patterns through painting, allowing her to merge nostalgia with modern techniques.
Linda isn’t alone on this artistic path—she shares it with her husband, Ben Moss, an artist whose style contrasts her own. While Linda’s works lean towards earthy and traditional themes, Ben’s creations find their voice in graffiti and comic-art styles. Despite their differences, Linda finds their communication enriching. “You have a built-in critique, and you have someone that just gets you,” she says, affirming the beauty of having an artistic partner who understands the creative journey.
The exhibition at Gallery One Eleven will showcase the fruits of Linda’s labor over the past two years, highlighting the evolution of her work and her unyielding passion for art. The event is not merely a viewing but an invitation to engage with her stories, expressed through the vibrant hues and forms inspired by nature.
Leesville’s thriving art scene continues to blossom, serving as a home base for talented artists from Shreveport and beyond. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in Linda Moss’s captivating world of art. Mark your calendars for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of creativity, connection, and inspiration!
