Shreveport, La. is buzzing with excitement, and it’s all thanks to our incredible local service members! Recently, the KTBS studios welcomed two inspiring members of the Louisiana National Guard, SSgt. Mikoyla Patterson and SSgt. Christian Knoll, who shared their experiences and the numerous benefits of serving in one of the state’s most respected organizations.
Life can be a juggling act, especially when it comes to managing education and a career. Thankfully, being a part of the Louisiana National Guard (LANG) provides an amazing opportunity for those looking to strike that balance. SSgt. Mikoyla Patterson highlighted how this part-time commitment gives her the freedom to pursue her college degree without sacrificing her personal life or responsibilities.
“Since I serve part-time, I have the flexibility to focus on my studies,” Mikoyla explained with a smile. “Plus, I get to stay close to home and serve right here in Louisiana!”
And speaking of staying close to home, Mikoyla shared a great perk for those who choose this path: the 100% tuition exemption at any Louisiana college. Yes, you read that right—any Louisianan pursuing a higher education might just find a golden opportunity waiting for them through the National Guard!
But wait, there’s more! SSgt. Patterson also mentioned the Patriot scholarship that covers all mandatory college fees for Guard members, making it even easier to achieve those educational goals without the weight of financial burden.
When it comes to serving in the National Guard, it’s not just about personal growth—it’s also about giving back to the community. SSgt. Christian Knoll revealed the deep sense of pride he feels being a member of the LANG. “Serving means everything to me,” he expressed. “I’m one of less than 1% of people who have the opportunity to serve and protect. It’s not just about protecting our country; it’s about protecting our state and our fellow citizens.”
That’s a powerful statement! There’s something deeply honorable about knowing you are helping safeguard the place you call home. For Christian and his fellow Guard members, it’s not merely a job but a life mission embodied with loyalty and courage.
This past Veterans Day, Shreveport took the time to honor active and retired service men and women, reflecting on their selfless dedication and sacrifice. It’s a moment to express our appreciation and gratitude for those who have bravely stepped forward to serve our nation and local communities.
As we celebrate these brave souls, it’s essential to think about how each one of us can support their efforts and perhaps even consider joining their ranks! Whether you’re a young adult contemplating a future career or someone looking to give back to the community, becoming part of the Louisiana National Guard could be a fantastic choice.
With education benefits, career opportunities, and the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives, the Louisiana National Guard is more than just a military service; it’s a pathway to a fulfilling future. So, if you’re in Shreveport and looking for a meaningful direction, why not explore the exciting possibilities that await you with the LANG?
After all, protecting our hometown and state while advancing personal goals sounds like a win-win situation! Share your thoughts and experiences with us in the comments below. Who knows? You might inspire someone to follow in the footsteps of our local heroes!
