On March 21, 2025, LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine held its Match Day celebration, where fourth-year medical students learned about their residency placements. With a match rate of 96.1%, many students secured positions in their first-choice residency programs, crucial for addressing the state’s looming physician shortage. There was a buzz of excitement in Shreveport, Louisiana, on March 21, 2025, as the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine hosted a fantastic Match Day celebration. A whopping 96.1% of LSU Health Shreveport applicants successfully matched through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Medical student Naadia West celebrated matching with her first choice in Tennessee for a residency in Family Medicine, while fellow student Mori Modi expressed excitement after matching with her first choice at Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, focusing on Pediatrics. Another aspiring physician, Ivan Alvarez, will journey to Lexington, Kentucky, for his otolaryngology residency. These individual wins contribute to a heartwarming atmosphere as families and friends gathered to celebrate their loved ones’ achievements.
With LSU Health Shreveport successfully filling all 138 residency positions, new residents will join the ranks this coming July.
