LSU Shreveport Welcomes Demitrius Brown as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs

Louisiana State University in Shreveport Welcomes New Role

As part of its proactive approach towards enriching the student experience, Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS) has announced the appointment of veteran educator Demitrius Brown as the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. A relative newcomer to the administrative echelons, the role of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs was created to ensure a central point for all matters regarding student welfare and success, acting as an advocate for students among the senior administrative team.

Brown’s New Responsibilities

Brown will be directly supervised by Chancellor Robert T. Smith, and will lead the recently constituted Division of Student Affairs. His core responsibilities will include supervising several pertinent departments such as Recruitment, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Life, Career Services, Title IX, Veterans Support, Housing, Counseling, Institutional Research, Scholarships, Continuing Education, Events and Community Initiatives.

Significant Experience

Speaking of Brown’s appointment, Chancellor Smith noted his significant experience spanning over 24 years with student affairs: “Mr. Brown brings with him extensive experience in student affairs. For nearly 25 years, he’s been committed to helping students have a successful college experience.

“In this new role, he’ll work to advance student success, health and wellbeing, equity and inclusion, and leadership development. He’ll represent student needs to the community and work with faculty, staff and parents related to students at LSUS.”

Past Accomplishments

Brown has built a sterling reputation in the field of student affairs, demonstrating a strong commitment to student wellbeing throughout his career. His previous roles have encompassed being the Director of Residence Education at Mississippi State University, Dean of Students at multiple colleges, and Executive Director of Housing and Residential Education at the University of Denver, among others.

Passionate Advocate for Students

Expressing his enthusiasm about the new chapter in his career, Brown said: “I am thrilled to start a new chapter at LSUS. I have experiences creating environments where students and staff can find a sense of belonging and thrive. Working with and advocating for college students is a passion of mine.”

Brown, a product of Mississippi State University, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Science degree in Counselor Education, Student Affairs in Higher Education. His commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment points to a promising future for the students at LSUS.
